Yeah you can refill your cartridge. It is really easy and consists of removing the plug on the side of the cartridge, dumping out any old toner and dumping in the new toner. Its very easy. I have purchased refill kits from both of these sites in the past and its worked great:

www.tonerrefillstore.com

www.lasertekservices.com

They also have great customer service. I hope this helps!

I disagree that refilling yourself gives low quality, you just need to find a supplier that guarantees the product and offers tech support. I have refilled my TN560 toner myself many times and the quality is as new.

The cartridge for the Brother DCP-7040 Laser Printer is also just as easy to fill.

There are many good toner refill kit sellers online, some arent so good, but just find one that has tech support, and guarantees there product.

I have refilled my brother toner cartridge many times on my own and had great results.

Yes if you look at cartridge you'll see a white sticker warning you not to remove for warentee reasons under the sticker is a round plastic plug that will alow you to refill the cartridge. Try find UNI-KIT #7 Toner bottle ( search on Google) for name. It will refill you 3 or 4 times for under $35.00

You can get these cartridges refilled at Cartridge World for 20-40% off the price of buying new ones. I would not recommend refilling these yourself if you care about print quality. I would also advise caution with refill kits off the internet. You need to get instructions on how to reset the flag gear (page counter) and most times the toner is of such low quality that you get print defects sooner than you should.

Brother dcp 7040 prints and then prints too light

Before refilling, clean entire cartridge units. Remote its cleaning blade and clean it with an IP solutions and make sure no bends in cleaning blade. Do not mix new toner powder with old one. Also clean plastic portion below the developer roller also. Then the same complaint found, clean the LSU unit of the machine. Now it work properly.

How do I clean the toner

Sounds like a poor quality toner was put in your cartridge. If you are using remanufactured cartridges see your remanufacturer for a replacement. If you are using OEM cartridges contact Brother directly and they can sort out the issues and supply replacement cartridges.

Error message "put the black toner cartridge back in"

I got this same error message on a newly acquired Brother DCP-7040 that I purchased used off of ebay.

As I was troubleshooting this unit (that I bought untested off of ebay - hey gambling has paid off handsomely for me many times before!), this error message kept popping up.

I checked the COUNTERS (page & Drum life) and found out that the DRUM had 0% life left. BUT, the reason it showed ZERO was because this unit did not have any drum! The toner cartridge (TN-360) needs to sit WITHIN the drum (DR-360) on this DCP-7040 unit, as well as in models DCP-7030, MFC-7340, MFC-7345C, and MFC-7440N.

So perhaps some of these "put the black toner cartridge back in" problems could be related to the DRUM (or lack thereof). A possible tipoff (since the toner cartridge actually does slide into the unit much like other units that do not use Brother's DRUM carrier) seems to be the relative ease with which the toner cartridge slides into the DCP-7040 and really doesn't seem to "lock" into position real firmly.

I want to refill a brother TN135M Magenta Laser Toner Print Cartridge how do you do it?

You don't. I own and operate a printer cartridge refilling shop and we don't offer refills for new Brother color lasers becuase there is not a quality toner available, even to us! Besides that hindrance, the way Brother cartridges work they need (should) be cleaned of used toner before refilling. These cartridges "recycle" their waste toner which can degrade print quality if not removed. It is possible to vacuum the toner, but keep in mind it can be explosive when aerosolized. If you do choose to vacuum at home be sure your vacuum has HEPA filtration BEFORE THE MOTOR. The spark from the brushes in the motor can ignite the toner.

My Brother HL-2170W only gets about 300 pages per toner cartridge unless I put a piece of masking tape over the whole in the cartridge through which the printer ascertains how much ink is left. When I...

It is perfectly safe to cover the sensors on either side of the cartridge. What works best is to cover it with a piece of black electrical tape. The cartridge is set up so that when you put it in the printer, the printer shines a laser from one end of the cartridge to the other. This laser reads the toner level. If you cover both sides up with tape, it tricks the printer into thinking the cartridge is full of toner.

Hope this helps! :)

Toner Life End message on DCP-7040

If your cartridge has a lever on the left side near the rear, it needs to be reset, and there's a lever inside on the left that can stick and cause that error. You need to wiggle and pull that lever until it moves freely again.

That really sux. No way should these cartridges fail unless they are totally out of toner.

A drum should last 12,000 prints.

Are they refills or Genuine Brother cartridges?

I would email Brother Tech Support on this issue.

Dcp 7020 and 7040 toner life end message premature, need override

When the Toner Life End LED flips on, requires you to replace the cartridge, even when there's still toner left in the cartridge. The machine detects end of life by shining a light through from one side to the other.
To circumvent the detection mechanism, remove the cartridge and put a piece of masking tape over or jam a little bit of paper into the clear opening/circle on the right side of the toner cartridge, and then pop the cartridge back in. Eventually, you'll start seeing streaks, and then you'll know that the cartridge is truly empty.
