Hello shermalestuc,

The JL Audio 12w6 v2-D4 has dual 4 ohm voice coils that can be wired for either a final load to the amp of 2 ohms (parallel) or 8 ohms (series).

If your amp is 2 ohm stable, the best power solution for a single sub is to use the parallel configuration, both positives and both negatives together and then to the amp.

i have two jl w6 d4's and i have an audio pipe that pushes plenty of watts at 1 or 2 ohms to power these subs but not at 4 ohms. Is it ok to run the subs at either 1 or 2 ohms and if so how ddo i wire them?

Can you run a 8 gauge power wire to a jl audio 1000/1 amp and not have problems even though jl reccommends 4 gauge power wire?

Hi, if you're going to run a smaller wire, you also need to use a smaller fuse. A 50 amp fuse is needed for 8 gage wire. The fuse is there to keep the wire insulation from melting, which is what will happen if you run too much power thru the wire. If you don't plan to turn the amp up too high, this may work fine, but I would test it first with a 50 amp fuse before installing. You will need all of the speakers hooked up and the gain set to max to test the power draw. See the following link on wire sizing for more info: http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm

Jl 13 w7 burnt voice coil

Nope!! I burnt up my 12W6 from supposedly under powering it. Your going to have to pay for a new coil if under factory warranty. Other wise ..... spent good money on a paper weight. Sorry for your loss, I know that I was pissed. :-(
