Question about Crate FlexWave FW15 Guitar Amp Combo, 15 Watt Single 8 Speaker

Buzzes and feedback

Guitar player has a Crate amp that everytime I attempt to hook up the amp to go though the sound system I get a buzz or lots of feedback. He has turned down his gain on the amp, but then we can not hear the guitar. Have tried hooking directly to the sound system and through a direct box - any suggestions?

Make sure the "ground lift" option is used on the direct box.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES use a headphone output jack as the output of this unit. The headphone jack is for HEADPHONES that have no return to ground. Use of this as drive to a sound board is sure to cause problems and in some cases can fry these amps due to the circuitry.

The cable used to go to the direct box should be very short and high quality.

You should source the power for this unit from the SAME source and receptacle as your sound board if at all possible.

It is a definite pickup grounding issue causing hum/"buzz" which diminishes when touching strings. Check the impedance of cable jack inputs and cable which should be 1/4"mono input/output jacks) . A personal preference but effective is to NOT run guitar direct into mixer but through an external amp w/ a headphone out jack . Noise gating/preamp filter also will help eliminate the "buzz"/noise from pickups. It is unfortunately the nature of the "electro-magnetic" beast when it comes to electric guitar pickups .Hope this helps.

I also have this issue. Same crate combo amp. There is a loud buzz emitted only when there is a cable plugged in. Cables and instruments checked good, only possible issue is inside the input of the amp. Popped it open, solders and connections were intact and appeared solid. Anyone have a guess as to why this is happening?

Try plugging another sound source into the unit. The buzz MAY be pickup of magnetic fields in your guitar pickup that clobber your notes from the strings. Bad guitar cables are another possibility. By putting clean music from say a CD player into the unit you can find where the source is. If the CD player generates the same noises, then likely you have a failure of filter caps in the amp or other component failures. Also make sure your guitar can't "hear" the amp as feedback can do strange things.

New LP Studio. Fine on its own (well buzzes a little but acceptably), but pick it up - touch it - it buzzes like hell, as I increase the amp volume the noise gets worse. Pl help. Allan.

Replace the guitar cable with a better quality one and keep the guitar away from devices generating magnet fields like amps, etc.

It is likely that there is a failure of one of the amps in the unit. It could be a cracked circuit board, bad solder, bad volume control, or a bad compnent in the power amp section for one side. HOWEVER something does NOT compute here as you can't connect more than one speaker to a 15 Watt Crate amp... Maybe you have two of these amps.

My amp and cable are working... but my guitar wont make sound... when i turn up the amp it makes white noise... HELP!!!

PLUG YOUR LEAD INTO AMP TURN UP JUST A LITTLE SEE IF IT BUZZES WHEN YOU TOUCH THE END OF YOUR CABLE.IF IT BUZZES THEN THE FAULT IS IN YOUR GUITAR MOST LIKELY THE ACTIVE WIRE HAS COME OFF THE INTERNAL GUITAR PLUG.

It is a poor ground but it is not necessarily in your amp.
If it is only buzzing when you have a guitar or other piece of equipment connected try a new lead cable.
If it buzzes all of the time......remove the cover at the rear of the amp and remove control panel.
Inspect the feed line to the input. If it is loose or broken....repair or take to have repaired.

My spider III 15 watt buzzes whenever i have a cable plugged in.

MAKE sure you have it connected to a three wire circuit that has the ground. A lot of these style amps will buzz if they are left ungrounded.

Also search for sources of buzzing light light dimmers.

Further, power supply electrolytic filter caps are suspect.
