Could be your ignition switch itself not relaying to coil. I dont know vehicle specifics but there should be a wire from coil to dash, on fords it is red and baby blue if I remember right. Check this it may be grounding itself out.
its possible that the laser is out of alignment or low power output, older games will use single layer dvd's and newer ones will be dual layer. that might explain your problem. Laser modules are available to buy, but you will need to dismantle quite a lot to install it, and they are quite fiddly.

I have the same exact problem except my NBA game wont work. The problem is that the disk won't spin well enough. you need to lubricate it somehow without damaging the disk
it sounds like you play it a lot you need to clean the Len's if your not very good at taking any thing a part then don't do it get your self a cleaning disk from any QD, map-land, pound land, its very cheap it might need doing 4/5 time before you play any games OK try it what do you have to lose.
