Ativa DQ 120dDoesn't run in auto

The shredder runs like a charm in reverse, but not in auto. Wife put it in reverse the other day and returned the switch to auto. Without warning and no indication or man handling, it stopped running. (this is from a woman that breaks things with just a thought!). Either way, the unit should not have quit through normal or my wife's rugged use.

I personally work with Fellowes brand shredders, but it sounds like you have a paper feed sensor issue. This may be a mechanical or electronic sensor located in the center of the paper feed slot. If it is electronic it may just need cleaning(qtip dipped in rubbing alchohol. If it is a mechanical sensor check to make sure it has not been broken or it may be stuck because of paper that has become wedged behind it(you may need to jiggle the switch a few times to free it). If none of this works you may have a burned out switch or a bad pcAtiva DQ 120dDoesn't run in auto - 1.gif board, contact manufacturer for more info.

I have an Ativa shredder, and I loaded more than 8 pieces of paper into it! Which the machine says it can't handle. Now the motor is running in "Auto" and reverse, but the shredder blades do not turn.

Sorry to say some one will have to pull covers and check that gear did not break or came off. motor is turning but not the gears that turn the blades.

I have an ativa shredder model MD 1250. Became jammed on some staples. Reversed it and pulled it out but no the auto shutoff won't work Is it fixable? The shredder still runs.

Double check that you do not still have any paper that may have become stuck in front of the sensor for the auto shutoff. If there is something in front of the sensor it will keep running.

I work for Office Depot and the Ativa brand we get a lot back with this problem. It is a electrical problem in the sensor and all you can do is get a new shredder.

I have an Ativa DX 180 du shredder that has no forward motion but does reverse. I've keep the blades well oiled so I am not sure of what the problem could be. Please advise.

My shredder was only running in reverse, and it would make a clicking sound when i fed in the paper in forward. The sensor was okay, so this is what i did. Obvisouly something is blown on the mother board, and i can't fix that. I switched the wires around that go to the motor from the mother board. They just unplug, and it can easily be switched. Now when you put it in reverse, reverse is forward. You have no sensor, but you can still use it. Not the right way to fix it, but it's a fix if you are going to trash it anyway.

Ativa X1000 paper shredder that doesn't turn on

took the shredder section apart, cleaned out the gears of paper and a broken mount (plastic piece), and hand turned the electric motor to free it up. After assembly, the ready light works and so does the FWD/REV directions for shredding.

Shredder runs continuously in AUTO position. It appears to use a photoelectric sensor for AUTO activation. I cleaned the window once with a swab and windex. It worked for a few days but is doing it again...

There are three reasons why:
1. paper particles or oil are still causing the optics to think you are inserting paper. Remove cover and clean thoroughly!
2. Optics are misaligned.
3. Optics are defective.

Shredder runs in reverse, but will not feed in auto.

The light beam from the photocell that checks if there stiil is paper to be shred is either clogged by paper dusrt, or there is still some paper pieces left in the shredder wheels. Remove it, or clean it.

Be sure to remove the power cord before attempting to clean, the wheels can easily chomp off your finger!!!

Won't run in auto

The facts that the optical sensor is ok, and a high wattage resistor gets hot, indicates a mechanical problem, i.e. it's actually stuck (there may be a different power rating in the cpu, that means that by automatic, it stops by for example 1 Ampere, but by manual, there is no current check, i.e. the cpu delivers what the power supply is able to give. could be several A's, which will in turn burn the motor if you try the manual too long....)
So, unplug the power cord, and try to move the mechanics by hand, and you will discover the problem.
