I'm sorry your are having trouble with your LinkSys router.
If this is your only router, please connect your router to the modem using the Uplink port - use a cat 5 eithernet cable for this connection.
If you have another wire router, your routers should be treated as peer to peer - inother words, do not use the up link port on the most distant router to connect to the next upline router.
If you have any other computers you want to connect via eithernet cable, use any of the 4 available ports.
Your wireless computers should connect using the windows wireless wizard.
May I offer the following: Cisco, owner of Linksys, has a netrwork management program called Network Magic. It is available for free download and eval period after which they want $. I use the paid pro version and I love it. It is wonderful at diagonising troubles, detecting intruders, making security settings, and sharing resources.
I hope this helps you ... Thank you for posting your question to FixYa.com

Help in what, exactly? You connect your broadband modem (Cable modem) to the WRT54GS router, to the WAN input. Connect any of the 4 outputs to your computer's network card, with a RJ45 CAT-5 cable.
Go through the setup process on the router by linking your Web Browser to 192.168.1.1 and set it all up.
