E74 or rrod error means that there is an hardware issue.
What you need to do is a very simple and cheap repair.
look on ebay for x clamp repair kits, these are just a few bucks and most sellers include a good guide in how to do the mod/fix.
what causes the rrod or e74 error is the X shape clamp on the underside or the mother board bending and mis-shaping causing the ball soldering on the gpu/cpu slightly melting and forming hairline cracks in the solder.
The x-clamp kit will apply more pressure to the gpu/cpu and a little trick of disconnecting the fans and turning on the xbox and allowing it to overheat will re melt the solder ball joints to fill the hairline cracks.
Depending on which chip is the issue you may also need a 2000 watt heat gun instead of using the over heating method (the gpu chip).
Replacing the heat pads on the heat sink with thermal paste which comes with the kit will keep the gpu/cpu cooler and you wont have this issue again.
Please make sure you buy the kit which comes with heat treated nylon washers as the steel spring washes fail!.
The repair takes around 1-2 hours

This is known as the E74 error. This is caused when the unit overheats causing solder on the board to melt and bridge(connect). Once this happens it shorts out the board causing the error you have now. Contact Sony and see if the unit is still under warranty.

A red ring is around my xbox start up button
How may lights are showing up?

3 red light is GPU and the CPU overheating,

2 red lights is general overheating

1 red light is E74 and 4 red lights is the av cable.

For the 1, 2, 3, red lights you will need to get it fixed you can either send it in to do this or repair it yourself

My xbox has three red flashing lights, how can I get it working again?
My sons Xbox had the 3 red lights! It depends what colour of light is showing on your power pack the colour indicates what the problem is! The light will either be red,amber or green, my sons light was amber and that was due to a faulty power pack, Microsoft were very obliging and replaced the power pack free of charge,it arrived in 3 working days! Xbox 360 4 red lights even tho av lead is in
google for 'XBOX red ring of death',
it usually refers to poor cooling design on the xbox360,
the unit overheats, and has sometimes melted the solder on the gpu,
MS have a free recall for the heat fault up to 3 years from purchase, get the phone number from the xbox live website and get it repaired.

I have 3 sons, 3 xbox360s, and they have been returned to MS 7 times
