If you want to put everything to factory settings, then just restore Windows XP to the installation date or the date of purchase of your Computer.To restore the computer follow these steps. Navigate to
1.) Start--> All Programs---> Accessories--> System Tools ----> System Restore. 2) Open System Restore tool and then move back to the initial installation of your Operating System. Click the "Back" on the calender displayed. 3) When the installation month is displayed you can see some bold or highlighted dates. 4) Click any highlighted Day and then Press "Next" . Now the System Restore will be performed and the system restarts. 5) After the system restart you will be notified of a successful restoration completed. In the above way you can put the factory settings of the operating system.

You need a recovery disc for this operation. If you're any good with computers at all, and do not do this lightly, you can download dukes ban. Again this is not for novice pc users. This will literally and completely wipe your entire computer. Nothing will be recoverable and you will have to set everything. even the Hard Drive sizes. You will then need an OS disc like windows vista, windows 7, windows xp, etc and reload the entire OS back onto the hard drive.

How do you put the Windows XP back to factory default in the start?

There's two ways, one is using system restore and using the oldest restore point, as long as the points weren't deleted to increase storage space.

The other way is to use a windows XP install disk and doing a fresh install of XP.

As for a system, you can restore a system like a pre-built, say a eMachine using the recovery partition or recovery disks.

Geezus, with all the steps you have to do to start the Recovery to Factory Settings, how could you accidentally do it? Once you run the Recovery everything you had on the computer is gone. The computer is set back just like it came from the factory before you purchased it. You music, documents, pictures, videos, data and any programs you installed are history.

No the hidden partions rely on the main partion to have some files still intact to complete a repair of the operating sytem then restores the files back to thair factory settings, to put xp back on you will need the factory recovery cd or dvd. If you buy a copy of xp and install it then ust eht recovery it should restore it to factory with drivers as well.

Use system restore and add/remove program to use system restore go to start ---> all programs
---> accessories ---> sytem tools ---> system restore .. restore your computer in earlier time...
to go to add and remove program click start ---> control panel and find add/remove program
remove the program you did not have when its new...

In order to "reset" a computer you will need to reinstall Windows XP. Most PC makers no longer give CD copy of windows with their products, and so they'll usually put a copy of it on your hard drive.

You can find this by going to

C:\Windows\i386\Winnt32.exe

Selecting this .exe will lead you through a step by step guide to wiping and ultimately reinstalling windows on the machine.

Sometimes the i386 folder is in the root, depending on the Brand.

You did not specify what brand of computer or operating system.

general advice:

To do a factory restore and set the computer software back to like when you first purchased it:

Windows XP:

You will need to visit the manufacturer's website and order the restore cd.

Windows Vista and 7:

Start the computer and tap F11 button. This will bring you to the factory restore wizard and allow you to erase everything on hard drive and install like the day you brought it home from the store.

There is none, you need a cd...but you might be able to restore is to the factory settings by using "System Recovery".
