With Windows 98 you MUST install a suitable driver in addition to Windows 98 to talk to CD Roms. I believe there is also a general service routine that must be loaded.

XP has all this functionality built in.

HOW DO i CLEAN INSTALL WINDOWS 7 32 WITH HARD DRIVE CONTROLLER

Boot with Win 7 disc instead of installing from Windows. Or do you mean USB device? Same thing but you need something like Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool from Microsoft. BIOS boot menu should also reflect media format. USB or CD-Rom / DVD.

I have bought a BTC extrenal disk drive USB 2.0 CD-RW 52x24x52x. My computer is regestering that it is in the usb port but it will not read any disks. I have an Acer travel mate 2300 laptop

A BTC CD-RW drive is compatible with Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP and it can read and write under Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP.
Under DOS, the drive can read CDs only.

The quality of CD-R/RW media varies from different brands. A CD-R/RW media with bad quality causes writing error and makes a CD-ROM drive difficult to read.

Please check if the disc has deep scratches, fingerprints, or other contaminants on the discs surface. Clean the disc if it is necessary.

1. Use the burning software which is provided by original supplier and bundled with this CD-RW drive or download the update file from internet. 2. More capacity of hard disk is needed if using hard disk as temporary buffer. 3. Place the disc correctly. 4. The blank disc needs full format first if using Packing Writing software.
Software such as; EasyCD Creator, Nero-Burning ROM, NTI CDMaker are the only supported.

Flash firmware for Windows mode: 1. Please download the appropriate driver file you need from this page. 2. Run the flash program under Windows. 3. Click on the ¡uUpgrade¡vbutton under the flash program 4. ¡uStatus Upgrading¡vis starting to flash the F/W 5. After flashing, the system will appear ¡uComplete¡IPlease restart your computer¡v, then, restart your computer to finish the flash procedure. Note: 1. BTC do not recommend you to upgrade your F/W, if the drive is working properly and does not encounter any irreclaimable problem issues. 2. BTC is not responsible for any defective reasons if the upgrading process caused the issue. Firmware for windows:V000F.exe

My pc wont read any cd

Most likely your CD-Rom either needs to be cleaned or replaced. Try running a regular CD player cleaning disc in the ROM. If this doesn't get it working correctly, then you will have to replace the CD-ROM or buy an external ROM that hooks up with a USB cable.

Can i change the operating system from windows vista basic to windows xp?

I would advise you not to do so. Most manufactureres did not release proper drivers for windows XP, as MS didn't encourage them to do so.

I can advise you to install windows 7 instead. I've installed it on all of my computers and I'm more than pleased. You can even run different programs as if the windows was XP... (and no, I don't work for Microsoft...)

Seagate external harddrive with windows 98 OS

Remove (or take to your local computer shop) the Win 98 hard drive from the computer.
Put this drive in an external USB drive enclosure.
Plug this enclosure into a Windows XP vintage computer.
Copy the data to this computer.

Save Win 98 drive for posterity!

How to reformat back to windows vista ?

You need a windows Vista disc. Insert the disc and follow the prompts. I would format the hard drive instead of upgrading do a new install. The best way would be to go into your bios and make sure the boot device order has the cd-rom booting before the hard drive. Then put the disc in and start the computer, when it says press any key to boot from cd hit any key and let it load and then follow the prompts to install.

Cannot boot up from CD-Rom with Win 95 and Win 98

You probably have a version of windows 98 that was not bootable on CD. You would need to boot from a windows 98 floppy bootup disc, then go the the d:\win98 directory and run setup from there.
