When I turn on my YSP-900 system or turn it off, the attached sub-woofer (Klipsch brand) makes a VERY loud bang, almost lke a sonic boom. Is there a way to prevent that? It is loud even if the volume is turned very low.

A powered subwoofer can be connected directly to a TV's output jacks to boost the bass. An audio Y-adapter condenses the stereo signals into a single signal for the subwoofer to reproduce the bass frequencies. ... Subwoofers connect with a single 1/4-inch audio cable.

Hi, Yes you should make adjustments.KEF makes very good products, however if you don't handle this you will have to replace or service it. 1 If the woofer is very close to you, relocate it further away. The reason being is that the lower the frequency the larger the wave form. The lowest waveforms will become louder. 2 Adjust the high frequency cut off to be at 80Hz. This should eliminate boom. Higher Sub frequency tend to muddy the sound. 3 The sub should have a subtle effect in music. So the relationship between it and the speakers it augments the sound of should be seamless. 4 If you are playing Rap or Reggie music and you like to play it loud. Add another sub into the system and locate it NEXT TO the KEF Sub. In this fashion the two subs will reinforce each other's energy. They will "couple" thus multiplying their energy considerably. Hope this helps, Best Regards, Mark
What model is the sub? Is your Klipsch sub powered? If it's already plugged in and powered on make sure you have the RCA cable going to the correct LFE output on the Denon and have it set to 5.1.
Is your gain all the way up? If it done this before, sounds like your over working the amp. Make sure your subs ohm load is capable with the amp load to. If they are 1 ohm and your amp is only 2 ohm stable, it would beat for a lil bit then go into protection mode to. Check your wires too.
u have a cool sound projector but u have a baaaad power supply system. bad power supply design - u will get all sorts of noise when u power it up. i have a sub woofer with the same problem(which in my case is the way it is designed). i used a delay circuit. but in ur case i know YSP-1 has a clean start up. so, if the warranty still covers it get it replaced. static noises, pop noises are often caused by bad capacitors.
Any powered sub-woofer will work with it. Check the back of the Technics, make sure there is an RCA output labeled "Sub-woofer" or "Woofer" or "Sub". If so, you can get any brand of powered sub woofer and it will work. A powered sub-woofer is one with an amplifier for the sub built into the box and you will need to plug it into an A/C outlet as well. The only exceptions to what will work with this unit is to make sure you are not buying a sub-woofer that is made to only work with the companion unit it is originally sold with. Many Panasonic and JVC sub woofers are like this. Just look for a sub-woofer that is not part of any system. Velodyne makes some really great sub-woofers that would work nice with yours, but they can be a little expensive, but they are very good.
If your Technics has no RCA output for the sub-woofer, you will need to make sure that whatever powered sub-woofer you buy has a speaker level input for it. Most powered sub-woofers have this feature, so that you may just run the front speaker outputs of the receiver into the subwoofer and then the sub-woofer will have a set of speaker outputs right below the speaker inputs so you can still have your front speakers connected to that and not loose anything from your system.
I hope I have explained this in a manner you will understand easy, if not just post whatever questions you may have right on this thread and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
It would also be appreciated if you could rate this solution if you no longer need any help from me. If you do require more help, please wait to rate this until we are finished. That way I do not get an undeserved bad rating when we have not even finished our communications. By the way, A "Thanks for trying" and "Helpful" rating are really not good, they always end up lowering my overall score.
