Thanks for getting me inside the unit but now I have the problem of trying to figure out what is making all the banging noise when if tries to go into the spin cycle. I looked and could not find anything loose (motor, trans)

  • vgyogi Jan 08, 2008

my unit is self balancing with some springs inside of some plastic cylinders. I by-passed the lid switch because I read that the switch could have been a problem, but that is not it either. The springs move when forced to move and I can push the drum down. it really sounds like metal banging or as if the transmission is hitting against the motor, but it is not.

I checked the nut under the agitator an it was tight and rusted. I took it off and now I have to get a new one. So what's next?

  • vgyogi Jan 08, 2008

I figured something like that would be next. the noise that it is making sounds like metal to metal and I think something came apart in the transmission. is the brake inside the thrans or is it outside the unit?

  • vgyogi Jan 09, 2008

I guess I will have to flip the washer over to remove everything. Is the brake inside of the transmission?

  • vgyogi Jan 09, 2008

If it is the brake inside the transmission that cost about $180.00 , it is almost coming out cheaper to buy another unit and sell the parts form this washer since I just need a good washer to clean the clothes. How would the brake be the cause of the banging noise?

    Thanks for all your assistance.

Slip a putty knife or other thin object between the top and front panels a couple inches from each side. You should see the clip release from the top panel. Pull the front panel down from the top

Is it off balance? Is the basket loose?

Below the agitator is a spanner nut that mounts the basket. You need to check that it is tight.

If everything above seems tight it's time to pull the transmission and check the brake

It's bolted to the frame underneath the trans. You'll have to pull the outer tub too. Not a job for the squeamish

    I agree. You're beating a dead horse

Ge washer wont agitate and makes a humming noise when in agitate cycle

That means the motor has shorted out if it is not spinning. The brushes inside the motor may have overheated and stuck. You can try tapping on motor inside wash machine to see if it will free up.

sounds like you have a broken lid switch on the washer, maybe someone slammed the door or placed or stood on top of the washer, a broken lid switch won't allow washer to go into spin mode is a safety device so if is on spin cycle an someone sticks their hand it the machine stops an not breaks your hand.

broken lid swtich

good luck leave some feedback thanks!

Washer won't agitate or spin out.

Well it is ethier Belt, Cluch ,motor ,Or transmission. But it does sound like your transmission . The loud clunk is the brake in the gear case ( Trans.). It might have broken off.

Make noise during wash cycle, has no agitator action and no spin during spin cycle/drain cycle

Looks like the bearings may have failed. TURN OFF the POWER and try and rotate the agitator/tub by hand. If it is jammed you should investigate why. Possibly caused by bearing failure or something wound around spindle.

Take care and do not attempt to investigate the problem without first disconnecting from the mains!
