I have a playstation 2 slimline model. it will not play original DVDs, it WILL play backed up DVD's but not original ones. I have over 200 original movies and only a hand full of backups what the heck has happened to it ? ps it is not chipped, modded, or ever been opened and there is only myself that lives here no spills, bumps crashes anything... it just stopped playing originals ! any one solve this mystery ? cheers

Mine did the same thing. The laser for the PS2 games, and DVD's died. I guarentee that it plays CD's and PS1 games perfectly. if so, the laser needs replaced. and what you have to do is order one on Ebay or something, and have some one put it in. I put a new laser in mine, and well, I am watching a DVD on it right now.

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

hEy i hAd the sAme pRob...............dOn wOrRy all u hAv to do is to turn on uR pS2 witthout puttin a DVD oR aNy diSc........on mEnu screen gOto [options] by pRessing 'triangle' button......... a new screen will appear select by pressing 'X' [DISC SPEED]....n sEt it to fAst.....then insert the DVD movie........tURn off PS2....press n hold the reset button till the blue light is turned on......release the button and press it again.............. it wOuld take a little tYm foR uR DVD movie to be loAded........be patient till the movie plays it self..............

you only need a modchip to play pirated PS2 and PS1 games.

how to play dvd

try to use a dvd which is supported by this what i mean is that according to its region. if you bought this in japan you need to play a dvd which came from japan. a pirated dvd can not be played definitely
