I wish to format my Compaq Presario v5000 and reinstall windows can you help

Good day sir/maam, yes let me be of assistance to your task of formatting your Compaq.

Power on compaq and place your windows XP CD installer on the CD drive.
Here are the events that will take place.

1. You need to boot the CD inside the drive. Go to CMOS setup (usually you press F10) and locate the first boot option, set it to the CD drive. save and restart.
2. If the boot from CD appears press spacebar, or any key to start the boot process.
3. At this point windows will load the series of files needed to setup windows. wait for it to ask you a question.
4. You will arrive at a point to create a partition or where you would like to install the windows Operating system, we usually select C drive.
5. Next is you need to choose what kind of format you want on the C drive, just choose NTFS, be it the long format or the quick one. (quick format mean the drive is only erased).
6. Wait for the windows setup to restart, then the CD setup takes over the setup process. Wait for it to ask you questions on where you are, country and the likes.
7. After setting it up, the XP setup will ask you the 25 letter/number serial code that can be found on the CD case.
8. the setup will restart, follow the instructions on how to register your windows, or just skip the the process, you can register it later.
9. On the input login names, place your name and add extra names if you want as login name.
10. The windows setup is done, you now need the CD that comes with your compaq laptop, to setup all the devices on it, such as sound, video, usb, lan, etc. your done.

When you power up the computer press F1 or F2 or "del" key then you can enter in bios screen.
Make sure hardddisk is detected in bios.
Then check.
But still it not boot then you need recovery disk or windows disk toformatyour windows.
For that insert rcovery disk in cd/dvd rom .
then again follow above method for enter in bios.
Then go to boot option and set first boot device as your cd or dvd rom .
Then save and exit.
Then it boot with recovery disk.
Then follow the procedure on screen.
Then choose new installation of windows.
Then select 1 partiition to install windows then format with fat32 or ntfs.
