Umax PowerLook 2100XL Flatbed Scanner Logo
Posted on Nov 06, 2009

I have a Umax PowerLook 2100 XL, since I upgraded to a dual processor MacBook pro with OS 10.5.8 I have not been able to use the scanner. Error message comes up stating no scanner found. I connect to the laptop with firewire converter FR1SX. I worked great with OS 10.4 on my old MacBook pro that did not use an intel processor.

Hi Try using the software called Vuescan by Hamrick Software.. www.hamrick.com I think.
It will recognize the scanner and work with OS 10.4 and UP. Although I am not sure about 10.6 Snow Leopard.

I want to convert my PowerLook 2100 XL from scsi to USB. Can I?

You need to purchase a Ratoc FireWire - Ultra SCSI Converter and then a s scsi pin adaptor that will fit the Converter to the back of the scanner - and it will work on OS 10. There is also a software CD you need to install that comes with the converter. I have found I need to reinstall this Utility software every time I have shut down and restarted the system unfortunately - but it does make the scanner work - so now I just leave the CD in the computer and automatically boot it up and leave the computer and scanner on until I am finished using it for a while.

Powerlook Umax 1100 Flatbed scanner & Mac 10.5.5 Driver's..?

Looks like they'll let you buy Silverfast SE for just ... $49. Wow. Expensive price for just a driver.

On the premise you may not need the Silverfast software per se, just the driver, you may be able to, after investigating the legality, try a demo version of a Silverfast product and see if you can keep the driver itself after you get uninstall Silverfast.
