HP LaserJet 1022 is a "host-based" printer so it must be connected to a PC. Load the driver on PC first and connect the USB cable when software tells you to do so.
Will not work on a Linksys print server.
LaserJet 1022N & LaserJet 1022NW have "special" HP print servers that can support HP host based printers.
USB: Run the cd, when its asked for connecting connect the usb cable, do rest..Network. I had the same problem with this printer. I tried cold resets and flashing the firmware on the printer and still came up with an IP of 0.0.0.0 and the printer still set to manual. Here's what worked for me.
When flashing the firmware the first time, I only had the usb connection from the computer to the printer. After a few other attempts, I tried flashing with the usb cable connected AND the network cable connected from the printer to the wall port. After this the configuration page gave me DHCP and a brand new IP Address.
Here is a working link to the firmware for Windows. So just simply have the network cable connected while flashing the firmware on the printer, hope this helps.
Every network printer or print server has a unique IP address associated
with it. This address is either configured manually or set using an
automatic network protocol such as the boot protocol, reverse address
resolution protocol or zeroconf. You can normally find the IP address of
a printer on the printer's control panel or by printing the
configuration page. Select the printers and faxes tab from the control
panel. Right click on the printer those you want to find the IP address
and click properties. Then click on the ports tab to display the IP
address of your printer.
If the connection is ethernet. Print configuration from Printer. Manually install printer. Select computer is on local port Local port to select is TCP/IP then type in the network address to the printer. Driver will still be inside computer.
