Seagate Desktop Expansion 500GB External Hard Drive, is not detected suddenly. I have tried changing the cable in case of usb cable but no luck. The light is on but the PC is not detecting it. I have tried more than 1 PC too. I need to retrieve/recover the data on it, it very important and I have no other backups, please.

This is a solution I have used in the past and it has worked. It's a Seagate Recover utility for end users.

If the data is absolutley critical and very valuable, you can send it to Seagate and they are very good at recovery as well. It gets a little pricey at $800, but I too have had to use that as well for mission critical data I could not afford to lose.

Not a DIY task. You need a professional with data recovery skills. There are few good ones around.

How to recove Seagate external hard drive data?

Probably, the new operating system cannot recognize your Seagate external hard drive. You can connect the Seagate external hard drive to another computer to copy data to another device. If the problem still exists, you might need to perform data recovery. You can free download the data recovery software: http://www.icare-recovery.com/seagate-recovery/seagate-external-cannot-be-recognized.html

Sounds like driver problem to me. Re install the driver by using installation disc, or if you have lost your CD, than use this Driver Update Software to update. I hope this helped.

Seagate Expansion 1TB external Desktop Hard Drive (9sf2A4-500) not detected.

Claire,

Have you tried connecting the drive to another computer using Windows 7 or later. You could try chkdisk /f at a command prompt or get the testdisk app to identify deeper issues with the drive.

My hard drive freeagent desktop 500gb cannot be detected when connected to the system even when l take it to another computer, l opened the case to test seperately and discover that the HDD cannot be...

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this program to recover your files.

External 500gb hard drive not readable

Check the partition size in Disk Management (if running Win7 - download a free Partition Manager if not) and see if the system is seeing the partition correctly. Seagate has recovery software available on their website but you may just have to repartition and reformat.

I havea seagate 500gb external hard disk, when i connect it wth the laptop the hard disk is not recognised on my laptop. i have windows xp professional installled in my laptop

Click on the link below and then click on the "Fixit" button. Windows has a patch for all external devices not recognized by PC's including HD's. This is especially an issue for those who've recently installed SP3. Best of luck with your problem.
