Can you supply a picture of the connection on the back of the monitor? Try to make it high quality and put a scale, ruler or dime near the connector to give proper scale/size and I will research it for you.
It seems to be that something gets hot inside after a few minutes of operation of the monitor. So I placed a small fan so that air flows thru the monitor and that did it. What gets hot inside , I don't know.

spc12b, Have you tried the flashlight test yet? How old is this monitor? Your monitor has a 2 types of power supplys in it. A switch-mode-power-supply and an "INVERTER" supply. One or both of them could be having a problem. The inverter needs DC from the smps to change it into AC to light up the cold-cathode-fluorescent-tubes that are hung in back of the lcd panel. Let me know results of flashlight test. After screen goes black, hold light 1-2" from screen at different angles. Let me know if you still can see the win-desktop screen even though it is still dark.. Bye for now. louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com
Proview known to have problems with failing capacitors in the power supply, not too hard to do for a few pounds worth of new caps. and a soldering iron.
How have you connected the monitor to the computer?
Is it through the vga or the dvi port?
Pls press the monitor menu button and change the mode to vga or dvi depending on the connection that you have now.
You might also get a vga to dvi adapter and connect the monitor to the computer.
Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages. Good Luck!
