I see a red light like something is red hot behind the back panel in the freezer. I removed the panel and I see a coil with 2 clear tubes that have some type of spiral metal inside. There is 1 midways of the coil and the other is at the bottom. Only the bottom one is getting red hot. What is this?

Solution #1 was very helpful and the heater shut off. I had unplugged the refrigerator just in case something was wrong and I have plugged it back up but I can't hear the compressor turn on. All the lights are on but I don't hear the unit cooling. Is there a reset button?

Those are the defrost heaters and glows red hot when defrost action is active. It should turn off when defrosting is complete or when the temperature is about 46 degrees Fahrenheit. If it does not turn off, the freezer will not function properly or it will be warm than normal. Have the defrost sensor assembly checked by a qualified technician.

Water dripping from freezer into refrigerator

Hi,Most likely the drain in the freezer is clogged up and frozen. Every time when your fridge automatically defrosting defrosted water dripping inside the fresh food compartment. You have to remove the back panel in the freezer and using a hair dryer defrost the drain which is located under the evaporator coil. Then put very hot water through the drain until it goes free.
Yes, you need to remove the back panel inside the freezer, It should have screws that come out then it should pull off and out.

On your model, the defrost drain hole/line is located inside of the freezer behind that back access panel, just remove that back panel, remove your freezer floor panel FIRST(Has 2 screws in front), that simply pulls out, then you will see the drain hole under the evaporator coil. It may be iced up, you will have to clear all of the ice and run hot water down the drain hole.

Once the back panel screws are removed that panel should just pull off, pull hard. Make sure your refrigerator is unplugged first.

Good luck.

Water collects under the vegetable bins but there is no sign of water anywhere else.

The defrost drain inside the freezer , behind the back wall , is frozen . Remove the food , then remove the rear freezer panel , If you have an icemaker , it too , will have to be removed . Use a hair dryer to melt the ice layer below the coils . Once you see the drain hole , defrost the hole , hot water helps sometimes . Once the hole is defrosted , use a small tube inserted into the hole and blow thru it to clear any debris inside . Reinstall removed parts and problem solved . Easy repair .

Freezer drain plug

Self defrosting refrigerators as well as freezers all have a defrost drain system. This drain system can become plugged or frozen causing defrost drain water to back up into the refrigerator or freezer compartment. The water may gather under the crisper drawers on top freezer models. On side by side, bottom or stand alone freezers ice will build up in the freezer at the bottom and eventually leak out the door.

Plugged Defrost Drain - Freezer on Top (Water under the crisper drawers)

At the top of the refrigerator next to the temperature controls there usually is a cup-like part that carries the defrost drain water into a tube and out the back of the refrigerator to a defrost drain pan behind the unit. Pull the cup out of the tube and clean the cup with hot water and soap. If there is no cup, pull the refrigerator out away from the wall, go behind it and disconnect the drain tube to clear it. If the drain tube is not accessible from the back or the drain can not be cleared from there the main back panel in the freezer can be removed to access, thaw and flush out the drain under the cooling coil.

Use a turkey baster to flush HOT water into the tube to clear any obstruction. The water squirted into the tube should end up in the defrost drain pan.

If the tube will not clear with hot water try blowing it out with compressed air.

Put the cup back on and make sure it is all the way on or in the tube.

Plugged Defrost Drain - Side By Side, Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator or Stand Alone Freezer

The defrost drain pan is located at the bottom of the freezer compartment behind the back wall of the freezer. On some models, the pan is accessible without removing the back panel and others are not. After you get to the defrost drain pan use a hair dryer to melt the ice from the pan.

Once the ice is removed use a turkey baster to squirt HOT water into the drain hole to clear the drain.

When the drain is clear you should hear or see the water you are squirting into the hole enter the pan under or behind the refrigerator.
