"Production: runin" error message on DVD player

One day i turned on the TV and put a DVD in the player, now for some reason there is always a caption in the top left of the screen saying "production: runin" on it. I have tried all of the manufacturers' recomendations on this but I can't seem to get rid of it. Please help, it is very annoying!

Same problem, I tried turning off power, resetting everything, it is still there?

Have a Westinghouse 32" tv/dvd combo player and there is a message when we try to play a dvd that states that there is a "production: runin" at the top left of the screen. This came up after a dvd was stuck in the machine...finally got it out. but the words stayed on the screen. The machine still plays the dvd--however the words stay at the top the whole movie. I have called to trouble shoot with westingouse customer service and they had us reset the dvd and also tv, nothing, even had us plug in the tv somewhere else....i called the closest service place for Westinghouse in Santa Fe Springs, CA (closest place that westinghouse has for repairs to Hollywood--eck) before bringing the unit all the way there I asked a service tech person at that place and he said he has not seen it before and said to bring it in. Don't really want to drive all the way there and back and be without a tv for a week or so....any suggestions?

We just got one in for repair to. All should know that if purchased in California the law requiers them to provide parts and service data for 7 years on any item that cost over $100.00. If they are in violation of this they are required to Fix it, offer you a refurbished TV, or a discount on a new set. You should mention consumer affairs and the Song and Beverly Warrenty act.

Same problem. It started yesterday when I unplugged the Westinghouse 26" TV/DVD combo unit (power was off) and moved it to a new location. PRODUCTION:RUNIN stays in the top left corner of screen during DVD but not during TV broadcast.

I posted my same question on another site and here is what a serviceman said......basically no parts for repairs from why bother having a repair shop?
here is his answer---
Production Runin?? That's what you see??

I have NEVER heard of that, nor have I SEEN it....and I work On Westinghouse TV sets under warranty.....

And you can't get parts ....isn't that the WEIRDEST thing you've heard?

A warranty repair station cannot get parts from the manufacturer....We're just there to verify it NEEDS parts and if so, it get's exchanged.....

When I play DVD's my tv screen gets a rectangle box on it, the VHS is fine, it's just the DVD player.

Yes! you are right, this almost sounds like a captions problem, check the DVD/VCR Combo menu, if it has captions turn it off using your remote.

Our LG 42LH30 TV for no reason displays closed caption. We cannot turn this feature off as when you try to select it in the set up, it is grayed out and skips past that option to turn off

What is the source of the signal for the TV? The CC may be turned on at the set top box (cable, sat, dvd player). Check the menus for any of these devices. If the source is OTA, then I'm not sure what to suggest.

I hope this helps.

(I have dealt with this for a neighbor. To get the captions on an older TV, they need the captions turned on at the satellite dish receiver and put the system in single mode. So they have to remember to turn off the captions when their hearing impaired relative leaves.)

Close captioning is always on when playing DVDs.

I believe you have to turn the caption off on the DVD. Some dvd's automatically start with caption title. Check the manual for the DVD again.

This is likely your DVD player, not the tv.

First go into the setup menu of your DVD player and make sure "subtitles" are turned off.

Next, put a DVD into the player and when it gets to the menu, go into the audio setup.

If subtitles are turned on, turn them off. If subtitles are turned off, turn them on and exit the menu, then go back into the menu and turn them off again. I've seen this reset this same problem on some DVD players.

DV2150 Close Captioning

Same problem here.
Instructions for DV2150 say you can access closed caption toggle by going to SETUP, then OTHER then CAPTION, but this (CAPTION) option is missing from the menu. I, too am struggling with the Jeopardy game buzzers, which I cannot program. Was wondering if the lack of "closed caption" is the reason

Closed captioning

I had the same problem. My DVD player was connected to my HD TV via a HDMI cable as was recommended by the DVD owner's manual. I removed the HDMI cable and attached the three video component cables. Bingo, closed caption crossed immediately.

Closed caption on dvds

Your TV will need to have (CC) capability. To view Closed Captioning (CC) information from a DVD using the CC function of the television, turn off the Progressive Scan function of the DVD player. If the DVD player doesn't have progressive scan then follow the instructions from your TV manual to setup closed captioning.
