Apex Digital AD-1110W DVD Player Logo

Hi all, I have an Apex Digital AD-1110WM. The symtoms are: The disc loads, it speeds up, then it slows down, speeds up again, then it displays: UNKNOWN DISC. This is with a factory disc. When I insert a home made movie, it keeps tracking back and forth and sounds like it has stripped gears. Again, it displays plays:UNKNOWN DISC. All esle seems to be functioning properly, including the Apex logo on screen and displays: NO DISC, when I don't load a disc into the unit. Can someone please let me know if this sounds familiar? Maybe someone has experienced the same symptoms and would be kind enough to share it with me. Thanks for your help in advance.

SOURCE: dvd player not loading

I openned mine up and found that the lens carrige was not in the fully retracted position. I pushed it all the way back to the back of the slide. Then I removed the two screws on either side of the spindle support so I could get to the lens. I hit the lens with some compressed air, plugged it in and loaded a disk and it worked like a champ. Listening to some Stevie Ray Vaughn right now!!! And going to watch some movies later. ;)

Good luck, I hope this helps someone.

I put a disc in and it says loading then says bad disc....any solutions???

Several things:

If this is a disc you made, it probably is not finalized.

The disc could simply be bad.

The laser is dirty. If so, purchase a disc cleaner, or disasemble the unit, and clean the laser with rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab.

We load a disc in and hit play--it acts like its getting ready to play and then says "no disc"

the lazer needs to be cleaned try putting a laser disc cleaner through the machine if that does not work send it into a shop to have the lazer pro cleaned by hand

Unknown disc

I have tried switching the motor over but it is fine therefore the laser that reads the cd's has stopped working.
This means the unit is scrap as far as I can tell
as a new laser is very difficult to fit even if you can source one not to mention the actual cost of another one.
I will never buy Apex again it only lasted about month
before breaking down. what a piece of junk. it seems like lots of other people have had the same problem
