Dvdr-w is reverting to cd rom hi guys when there is no cd or dvd in drive and i go to my computer its registering as dvd-rw drive but when i put in a blank dvd it changes into cd-rom drive and i cant burn dvd's. I tried going to device manager and uninstalling it and restarting and i tried system restore but no affect..any takers

perhaps the CD media you purchased is not compatible with your CDROM drive ..?

what is the model number oif the CDROM ? what computer model is used in ?

do a driver update on the hardware, and check your setup to see if is enabled as well F2 at start up ok good luck and have a nice day the fixist

What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means
CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write
DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory
so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs)
If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)

You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive

Go to the device manager to insure your optical drive is in fact a DVD/RW. You should also be able to tell by looking at the front of the drive and see what it says. If it says CD Writable or DVD Rom, you cannot do it. Kind of sounds like you have a CD/RW-DVD Rom combination drive, which does not allow the burning of DVD's.

for cd roms or dvdr/rws u dont need to insatll driver so just connect it as putting the jumper to acurate position if your ide cable is having some thing else connected from before just put the jumpher to slave or else master and put the power connecter and start the pc and your dvd or cd r/rw is ready to rock if u need to use it for copieng or makind data cd please install nero for pc and tostit for mac and u can get thease software by download or buying them..

have you checked that you are using the correct disks? Some writers are multi writers and will write to cd-r and cd+r. Check what your drive is by looking at the front if it says cd-r and you are using cd+r then it will not burn and vice versa.

you have a faulty disk inserted in the drive. Restart the computer and continuously press eject while the pc is booting, it should eject then.

Try downloading the latest drivers and firmware

My cd-rw/dvd-rom Combo Drive has A Problem.The Problem It Won't red the drive .I put A Dc in the Drive It Won't bring It Up why.Could you tell Me How To fix It.

this one is for suziebeech,make sure your cd drive is a (dvd rom only) drive meaning that it will read dvd only,i had a problem trying to update my unit i put my dvd into the dvdr /rw-rdl- +, and it took a while,then i put it on the second computer that has a dvd rom only drive it read it and popped up fast was able to update the unit so try that.
