Do you have a sd digital memory card installed? I have a Rebel XS and it won't even turn on without a card.
Have you got the lens set to manual focus? Is your card in working order? Have you tried a new card?
If you have a card installed is it formatted? Check your trouble shooting section in your owner's manual for details on checking out the camera.

Auto Focus does not determine exposure. Only sharpness. "Wrong" exposure could be due to the metering mode being set in Spot Metering. Set it back to Evaluative Metering which may improve the overall even exposure of your shots. Test your shots in full auto or P mode. M (Manual) mode will require you to check the exposure setting manually (you can see the indicator in the viewfinder when you half-press the trigger)

My Canon Rebel XT is overexposing shots in the Auto and Program mode by 1 or 2 stops. How do I fix this or compensate for it?

You can go into "exposure compensation" and lower the setting as you desire. It's the button that's half-black/half-white with a plus and minus.

Canon rebel xt 1. image looks blury in eye

1. The viewfinder's diopter is probably out of focus (doesn't affect Auto Focus of photos). There's a dial and a +/- symbol next to the viewfinder. Turn the dial till you can see clearly through it. Alternative reason: The glass in the viewfinder is dirty/foggy. Use camera cleaning solution (a drop) on a cotton bud to clean it.

2. Malfunction needs Canon Service Centre to take a look at.

Canon 350d with sigma 75-300 Macro

Check you exposure compensation and make sure it's not set above 0. Also take a peek at your LCD brightness level. If it's set high, everything looks overexposed when it's really not.

Lack of focus

I knew the problem was with the auto focus. First time I called the camera shop..they said "bring it in, we'll diagnose it...for about $200.) I tried a cvouple of days later...he said they would trouble shoot for free.

HOWEVER...he said to check to see that the lens was seated securely and correctly. I had taken lense off a few weeks ago and it was not reinstalled correctly. One small twist of the lens and back to perfect forcus!

Can't tell when Rebel xt is focused

So the problem is that it always looks blurry?
If so, look at the little dial that is coming out of the viewfinder. It corrects the viewfinder for people with bad eyesight, kind of like built in glasses. make sure the white marks are lined up.
