I changed thread again, and it is working fine now. don't know if that was actually the problem, or coincidence! but i read at your website that someone suggested old thread could be a problem. many thanks, b.

WHAT DO I DO TO GET MY BABY LOCK ELLURE ESL TO PICK UP THE BOBBIN THREAD?

You have your bobbin inserted into the machine spinning in the wrong direction. take the bobbin out and flip it over and wind around needle plate guide and cut. Look at the little pictogram on the plastic part of the machines throat plate. It shows which direction the thread should spin off the spool when you drop the top loading bobbin into the bobbin case.

Embroidery not working correctly

Well, before I did all that (which may be necessary), I would take a piece of UNWAXED dental floss or hand embroidery floss and floss between the tension disks. You mentioned that you were suddenly breaking threads; there may be lint or loose threads or both seated between the disks, preventing the thread from seating properly. Then,
I would take the embroidery unit off and try to do some sewing with it, to see what results I got. If you can catch and bring the bobbin thread to the top with the top thread, I am doubtful that your timing is off. Sew a line of both straight stitch and zigzag stitches, and see if the stitches are balanced. If not, you may have a bobbin tension issue, and if so, most bobbin cases can be adjusted.

I think you'll find, though, that things will improve considerably when you have cleaned out the upper thread path and tension disks. Make sure when you do that, that your foot is raised, so that the disks are spread. Oh, a drop of sewing machine oil wouldn't hurt either--generally you should put a drop of oil for every 5 hours of embroidery.

The top thread keeps shredding/ripping while trying to embroider. Using a babylock ellure.

as you thread the machine check for burrs, also on the needle plate

Bobbin thread is coming to the top of the embroidery project

Refer to the manual for cleaning the bobbin case and surrounding area.

Re-thread and replace the bobbin. Be sure to use machine embroidery bobbin thread. I use NEB prewounds.

Try a different design and use a cut away stabilizer. This holds the stitches better than tear away.

If the stitching is as before, lower the tension setting.

If you cannot resolve this, it could be a timing issue. Try the sewing feature to see if the stitching is off. If so, the machine will need to go in for service - take samples with you.

Thread problem

I'm not sure which thread you are referring to, its either the bobbin thread (under) or the needle thread (above.top)
