Install a new spark plug and drain the carburetor float bowl. Chances are the bowl has water in it from condensation in the gas tank. Below is a generic diagram.
you have probably solved this by now but I just got the same model new switch on instructions as follows press and HOLD the POWER button for 3 seconds to switch the unit on once temperature has been reached, press and HOLD the steam button on top of the iron for up to 20 seconds this will prime the steam pump and only has to be done once for each ironing session the pump noise will stop once it has been primed with water hope this helps if still needed if you need the user guide, let me know, I'll scan it for you Wendy
traced the fault to the cold water valve solenoid not operating so pleased to say that the person that sold me the washer has now given me my money back
