Panasonic PT47WX49E blue convergence

1> I'm in urgent need of service manual for 5 year old PT47WX49E, Which is giving blue convergence problem. I would greatly appreciate if you could email me service manual for it @ [email protected].

2>Also would you know; how to get into "service man mode" for this type of TV ?

3> I have a single chipset of STK392-110 convergence correction IC. I'm little rough on soldering (especially undoldering), can someone point me to a useful link.
Thanks in advance !!

    Thanks for the detailed instructions.

I replaced both the ICs (desoldered carefully, tight heat sink connection etc.) but still problem is same. What else could be wrong?

Also tried manual service mode, I could make other colors to converge but not blue.

Intresting observation here is: vertical convergence for blue is working but not horizontal.

I looked again, found one discolored (R7059) resistor. I took it out and it shows as open on my multimeter. from schematics it is a current limiting resistor connected to the IC7002.

1> Do I have to replace just this one or may have to replace 5 more ?

2> Schematic diag shows them as 2.2 Ohm resistors; but no comments on the Wattage or other special needs (flame resistence, carbon, wire wound etc). Would you know what are the other details?

    FixYa !!

Thanks for the help, it was exciting experience fixing the TV especially after long time I got a chance to work on the electronics stuff.

Replaced only -ve terminal resistor on the Opamp for Blue Horizontal convergence control R7059 (it was 2.2 Ohm 2W). Now TV looks great. May be ICs were not faulty al all ... I wonder ...

I had to spend lot of time in actual convergence configuration in the Service Man mode. I still could not get Red CHK to Yellow CHK for "Aging" configuration mode. Why Aging mode setup mneeded ?

    Thanks again,

The blue has lifted up into a blue rainbow through the TV. The cable banner along the bottom of our televisions is suppose to be an orange color and now it has a funny yellow color because of the blue lifting up out of it. I went into conversion to try and correct the problem or even make the television more watchable to no avail. The screen has also decreased in size on both sides. Dont know if I did that while messing with it or it happened at the same time as blue color lifted out of screen into a rainbow. HELP. [email protected]

I have what sounds like the same problem, only with my red convergence. It just started projecting off to the left and it stretches out more the further left it is on the screen. I've tried adjusting the convergence thru the normal menu, but it only affects the + symbol in the top left corner. Do you think this could be a similar issue?

    Hi Girishsan,

I think I might have the same problem with my PT47WX49... Was it fairly easy to repair once you diagnosed which part needed to be replaced?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

Where can I find the resistors that you are all referring to? 2ohm, 2watt, metal film, 5% tolerance, flame resistant resistor. What is the part number? I can't find these suckers anywhere!

    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to thank everyone for their posts as it helped fix my blue convergence problem om my six year old PT47WX49E.

Even though replacing the STK392-110 chips resulted in a fix, I don't think either of the chips were bad.

While cutting out the old chips, I discovered five out of six of the middle pins were never soldered! Unfortunately one chip was already replaced and I was half way through removing the second.

When you have a convergence problem, take a close look at the pin connections on the back side of the circuit board. Use a magnifying glass if you must (use one even after soldering to inspect your work).

Hope this helps save someone a few hour work.

Here is a link where you should be able to obtain a service manual for your set.

To answer your second question. You have to be careful. Make sure you write down all current settings so you dont mess the Television set up worse. The code is the following.
Accessing the Service Menu w/ Remote:

  • in the setup icon, set anntenna to cable
  • in timer icon, set sleep to 30
  • exit menus & tune to ch. 124
  • adjust volume to -0-
  • press volume down on the set panel & red "CHK" appears onscreen
  • use tv/video button to change video inputs
  • use POWER button on remote to toggle menus
  • navigate service menu with up & down, L&R and action button
  • images are tall & skinny. you must adjust the vertical size & position in the NTSC mode, as these are global.
  • Then set the horizontal size & position for each mode(NTSC, 525p & HDTV).

TIP: Use a dvd that has an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 (I used Starship Troopers) and make it just fit. Don't squeeze too much vertical as the AA9a60 may have some tearing on the top of the picture....this means you will have to cheat and increase horizontal size, cropping some info off the sides.
  • Try using ch.199 & the HBO logo to adjust...the "O" in HBO should be perfectly round (HTPC owners can use VE DVD and the ANAMORPHIC test pattern: title 20 chapter 5 I think). Now you will find your geometry is bowed & convergence is out of whack.
  • First do a STatic adjustment, then do a DYNamic adjustment.
Navigating the Dynamic Convergence Menu
  • cursor buttons- moves cursor postion up& down, L&R
  • #1 button-cycles thru each color gun & combos
  • #2 button-cycles test patterns (normal & dense)
  • #5 button-shows program material in background
  • #7 button-save this often as the set sometimes shuts down in the middle of your work!
  • mute button: cursor data..push to adjust current position.
  • swap button- confirm
  • power-exit
For your final question You should have( 2) STK392-110 convergence ICs in that model. Thats probaly your problem. I would recomend changing them out before adjusting any setting via the service mode. Thes ICs are available from for 5.99 each. Hope this helps let me know if I can be of any further help.

Right next to the ICs you soldered there are some 6.8 Ohm resistors that may be open they are easy to locate there are 7 of them they are R3149 through R3159 they have no color bands on them. Just the marking "RB8 1W J " which translates to 6.8ohm 1 watt 5% tolerance flame resistant. Check these resistors for a couple being open. Let me know how you make out.

Sorry about the last post thats a different chassis you'll be looking for 12 light blue resistors 2.2 ohmn. Sorry got the two chassis mixed up. Check those resistors see if one is open.

Yes that resistor is a 2.2 Ohm 2watt metal film resistor(flame Risistant) It has a J on it also that means 5% tolerance.

So what you need are 2.2Ohm 2watt 5% flame resistant resisitor. Do a check on the other ones if they are all within the tolerance range they should be ok. Let me know how you make out .

Your Ic is what took out the resistor. They usually burn a resistor when they go. Glad I could be of assistance. Anytime I can help somebody not have to pay a repair guy hundreds of dollars for a basic fix is a good thing. Congratulations on a job well done.

PT-47WX53 blue convergence PROBLEM

Sounds like you have a blue foldover in the convergence. Since tv has been worked on it could be bad ic, maybe not original, generic. I would say if you can open set and look in, look for the blue it should be marked. look for a loose connection. If you can have someone to gently tap around that blue amp and see if it moves are go away, it might be a simple loose connection and needs soldering. If not then my have to change ic again. Becareful cause set would need to be on to really check. Hope this helps.
