Canon EOS - no data on LCD and viewfinder says busy

I have a canon eos digital rebel and when I try to take a picture, there is no data on the LCD screen, the flash pops up and the inside viewfinder says it is busy and it won't take pictures. It is one year old and has been perfect until today.

Rebel XS was working fine... yesterday, all of a sudden, the LCD screen went blank and it displays 'busy' when trying to take a picture. Recharging the battery and replacing the sd card didn't change...

Error 99 comes on after I have taken a few pictures. I have tried cleaning with eraser as people have done and it still comes up with message.

The only problem with SD card download stuff is that the LCD screen has to be working. If that is part of the problem, how can the instructions be followed?
