My old garmin 3600 Ique has some problems. I purchased another from ebay and loaded the v5 and v7 on the secured digital card. Now I turn on maps, the gps gives me the sign that it cannot open maps. I have base maps but not the detailed ones.
The software for running the maps is not compatible is the cause.

Go ahead and RELOAD the ORIGINAL maps to your Garmin. Get it into the Position You Know It Is "KNOWN GOOD"... Then copy your Garmin 3600 chip to your hand drive on your computer someplace where you can retreive it if you need to.
Then buy the software you want, apply the numbers that required. If it does not load correctly, use the Customer Service phone from the company that created the New Software you bought.
What this will do for you is you will always able to go back to the "Last Known Good Stage", and restart your next approach. Let the New Map company know that you can do this so they will not say your unit is defective or Pirated. It will also make it a WHOLE LOT EASIER for you to get your money back if they can not satisfiy you totally, and you can go to another Map Source and feel comfortable you have done everything you can do and you have enlisted the help of the PRO'S of the one your trying to update...
Good Luck,
Jim
PS, I have three of them, and love them all.....

Each 3600 has a unique ID. Your subscription will only work on your original unit. You will need a unlock code for the unit you purchased (If the previouse owner purchased the software you wanted!
