Re; HP Officejet j5780 All-in-One
Before a copy is made the machine makes a loud clicking noise.
I had some paper jammed in the machine and pulled it out to clear the paper path. It now makes a very loud ratching sound before it starts to copy.
Any suggestions?
We need to perform a reset, it will take the pritner to the factory settings and this may help you,
the process of reset goes like.
unplug the power cable from the pritner >
then press and hold down the # key and 6 key >
while pressing and holding these keys plug in the power cable back into the printer and wait for 20 secs and then release the buttons..
after this the printer will re-initialize and this might take few minutes.. so wait untill it finishes and follow the onscreeen instruction as well.(if any)

Hello,
The loud clicking noise is either the toner cartridge or the paper feed.
If the jam occurs in the drum and toner cartridge then I recommend changing the toner.
If the paper is not being fed at all then you need to have the paper feed kit replaced.
Thanks,
Pat
Kindly install the scanner software for printer the driver software cd just re install it will install the scanner software and make sure in device manger there is not other usb device listed if it is there just remove it. And refresh it in will automatically install the driver.
On the back side of the unit there is a tab. Pull on it, it should come off easily. You will see the paper then and can pull it out safely. Never pull the paper from the front!
The sensor detecting the movement of the paper may have failed. As it requires expert service and replacement of the sensor better to contact the Service person.
lift the feed area and look at the small glass plate where the auto feed paper is actually scanned. That needs a good cleaning. Since the paper runs across it even a tiny little obstruction such as paper left from a paper jam or a dot of ink from that pen you used to unstick that last paper jam (maybe its just me??). That one dot turns into a line when the paper rolls across it. Clean well and the line will dissappear.
Loud clacking sound, jamming in fuser ? sounds like the gear that turns the fuser are bad and not meshing together,
accordion jam is the fingers or claws that ride on the fuser roller are probably worn out ( these can be replaced usually 3-5 ).
You can buy the parts and replace them yourself if a handy person, not that difficult.
I had same problem. Have you checked for paper-jam from the back, as sometimes a small piece of paper may be still jammed in. Pull open the door and check. Do not pull jammed paper from the front as this disturbs the rollers and printing process. I di this, and have had to buy a new printer.!!
