I did as Stephan said and blew on the lenses as they were extending. That didn't work but I then carefully and I do mean carefully pulled and slightly turned the lens as it was extending. There may have been sand in between the lenses since we had last used it on vacation. My camera is now working perfectly.

I have a cybershot DSC W55. When the power button is switched on the lens extends and the "access" message shown on screen. Also amber light is flashing above screen. After a few seconds I get a message to power on and off again. I\'ve tried switching on and off a few times, removing battery pack and memory card, but nothing seems to be solving the problem.

DSC-W50 sony cybershot

I had the same problem with my DSC-W55. I actually just called the customer service number on the sony website and they told me how to solve the problem.

- Take your battery out
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
- Re enter your battery
- Voila.. it should work when you turn it on. Mine did.
