SanDisk Sansa e200 MP3 Player Logo
Posted on Nov 03, 2009

I have a Sansa e200. Normally, when I plug it into the computer, it turns on and starts charging. Well, my mp3 player has no battery life. I played it until it was completely dead. But now, the computer won't recognize it, so I can't turn it on and reformat it of something. How can i fix this without turning on my mp3 player? -Carli

This happened to me before with same device. I left it plugged in for about 10-15 minutes and then it began to charge and all was well :-)

You can keep the Sansa plugged in without fear of overcharging. The Sansa will play while it is connected to a USB port that is supplying only power, such as a USB charger operating off a car cigarette lighter. It will not play while connected to a computer.

Sansa Recovery Tool
PDF how to use recovery tool

Answer The power may be depleted fully or the Connect might be hung during boot. Charge the Connect for at least 20 minutes using the AC charger. If the Connect will not turn on after 20 minutes charging with the AC charger, you can then try using the Connect Recovery Tool.

The recovery tool will reformat and reload the latest firmware to the Connect. The tool and instructions are located here.

Note: Ensure the Connect is turned off by holding the power button 8-10 seconds before initiating the recovery sequence.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Explanation:
The e200 can operated under two different modes, MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode and MSC (Mass Storage Class) mode.

To see the MicroSD card as a Removable Disk, the e200 must be in MSC mode. The following screen shots show how the "My Computer" screen will look when the device is plugged in under each mode.

Solution:

To change the mode from MTP to MSC go to the Main Menu of the e200.

If you're e200 is plugged into your computer, please unplug it first.

1) Scroll to the "Settings" > "USB Mode" > "MSC Mode" and push the select button.

2) Connect the e200 to the computer using the USB cable provided.

3) Go to "My Computer" and there will now be two Removable Disk drives similar to the MSC Mode image on top.

SanDisk, 2 GB Sansa mp3 player won't charge

I was having the same problem with my Sansa e250. My wife has the e200, and we didn't have any problems with that. I saw that someone on here suggested to lock the mp3 player with the tiny metal switch on top, so I did, and the battery charging icon on the bottom of the screen came on and stayed on, and the mp3 player worked. thanks!
Because of this I would suggest checking to see if it's locked or unlocked and then change it to charge it.
