I would upgrade the firmware and see if this works. If this does not fix your issue it is most likely a faulty power supply ( I know hard to believe but a power supply can cause this issue)

try going to the LG factory website. You should be able to download the operating system from them for free. Google LG you should be able to find the factory website in this manner. You can also enter the complete model number into google to find what you need.

LG GSA-2166D doesn't recognize a dvd+r disc

I would suggest getting a can of air and blowing it out real well. May take a couple of tries to get it clean. When these types of units set unused for a while, the various sensors get dirty. Sometimes the problem can be cleared up by simply inserting and ejecting the media 8 or 10 times. Let it run up to speed each time.

16x blank only writing at 4x lg model gsa 2166d. no firmware update past 1.01. all 16x blanks burn at only 4x. time to get a new dvd burner?

I think i accidentally deleted the software for my LG burner while cleaning up my computer. Can I download this online somewhere? It is an LG GSA-2166D external
