Belkin N Wireless router

I am trying to setup my new wireless router. I have Dell laptop and E-machine desktop. Running Windows XP on both. According to lights router is working correctly, but when I run the setup assistant on the laptop during step 1 I get this message: "The Setup Assistant is not able to connect to the Router via any of the network adapters in this computer. Please go back to the Quick Installation Guide and make sure all physical connections are correct. Also, please powere cycle the Router and make sure that the Router has power and that the appropriate lights are on(see guide)", which I have done several times with no success. Any suggestions?

Trying to install Belkin router/modem on PC with XP SP3. Setup assistant reports ''not able to connect to router using any network adaptor in this computer''. Any advice very welcome. Thanks RT

What is pictured on your request, is wireless.. are you on a laptop or a desktop ? Most desktops do not have wireless built in, you would need to buy a CAT/5 network cable to plug in from the PC to your Cable Modem/Router. Then you would use IE to access it, or Belkin's built in installer and configuration software. Some older laptops do not have wireless and/or bluetooth built in. You would then need to buy a PCMCIA card or USB dongle to get back in the grove of the router.

Dell dimension 3000 won't see wireless network

Hi, I've jst been looking on the web at the Mimo routers, you may find this article interesting, it may help even though its a couple of years old?

http://www.behardware.com/articles/614-2/wi-fi-mimo.html

Pay attention to part about 802.11n compatibility?
Perhaps try changing the IEEE standard on the router to 802.11g in the set up pages, as it may be set at 802.11n, which your older wireless card will not see.

As to the acquiring ip address message, try using a static ip address, here's a good guide:-

Maybe this will help?

Installation problem

Hi,

Initially, I would suggest that you connect either your Dell desktop and IBM ThinkPad laptop using a wired LAN cable to any of the Ethernet Port 1~4 of the router and verify that your PC is set to Auto obtain an IP address. Thereafter pls go through the setup procedures again.

If this is how you have connected your router and PCs, pls post back that we can figurre something else.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
