Changing the language

Hi, Pocket PC's have Windows OS installed on them. As with computers, you woun't find any option to change the language of the operating system. Your computer comes with english Windows, and however you try, it woun't be an option to change the language of the whole OS. It is the same with PDA's. But even harder than that, each PDA comes with a specific Windows, altrought it is the same version to other PDA's it has some specific things to each model. You can't install a Windows made for HP Ipaq to a Dell PDA because it will simply not work. Also, the language wich is skipped with a PDA is not to be changed. The producing company will consider this ilegal in some cases. I don't know why but they simply woun't want to change the language for you. However, there some triks to do that your self. To change a language means to change the whole operating system installed in the ROM memory. But like I said, the producers woun't simply allow that, and when you will try to install a diferent language ROM on the PDA it will give you some errors. I know of some ways to deal with this, but it works only for HP PDA's. It will be risky to try it on your own PDA. Also it is a fairly complicated process, involving hexazecimal editing and decompiling a ROM image. The simplest thing you can do is to go to a service center (other that viewsonic's one or major service facilities) and ask them to do that for you.

Language settings

Sorry but I have bad news for you. If you buy one product like PDA or Notebook you buy automatically OS with license. As far as i know Microsoft do not sell Pocket PC as retail product. I can not understund why Microsoft does not sell the different language as they do for Windows XP. Therefor, a German PDA may not be flashed with another language version. Only what you can do is make some updates in the installed language. If you want to have PDA with English OS you must ask your local dealer whether it is possible to order such one.
