That's most likely your upper/lower filters, or drivers acting up.
Try drivers first, as they are easier and faster to fix.
Go to device manager under system properties, and uninstall the device and reinstall it.
If it doesn't work delete the upper and lower filters:
Press windows and R keystype in "regedit" and press enter

Your dvd lens needs to be clean from dust. Clean the lens of the drive by using a cd/dvd lens cleaner. You can buy it at any computer stores. Reconnect the drive from your computer.
I have HL _ DT-ST LG GSA H42N SCSI Super Multi DVD RAM/CD RW It can open the CD but does n,t read the DVD. My hardware is not too old. How can i solve this problem?
