Makes sure you have the proper WEP key set in both laptops for the router. If the laptop that won't connect is an HP make sure the router is broadcasting on any channel except 6. This is the only channel forced 105mbs works on for most routers and is the default selection. HP laptops do not detect router SSID broadcast on this channel for some reason. I had 4 that had that problem. If all setting are correct go to Tool->options in IE and select teh connection tab. Make sure the settings are to use the LAN and that you have that set for Auto-Detect.

Hello and thank you using Fixya's services.

Is this a recent problem that just started or has this been happening for a while?

You can try a few simple things:

Turn the computer off. Unplug the modem (the box that was provided from you Internet company). Turn off or unplug the Linksys router.

Turn on the modem box and wait two minutes. Turn on the router and wait two minutes. Turn on the computer(s) and see if you can connect.

If you still get the error message and cannot connect. Try plugging one computer directly into the modem (take the router off) and see if you can connect directly. If you cannot connect directly to the modem then the box for the internet connection (modem=provided by internet company) is going out and needs to be replaced. They will replace free if you call them.

If you can connect, then try resetting the router. To reset the router, get a pen and stick it in the back of the router, there is a small reset button that needs to be held down for approximately 15 seconds. This will erase all data on the router.

To reconfigure the router, connect directly to a laptop or other computer. Also have the modem connected and run the Linksys cd that came with the router. If you do not have the cd, you can download the software from Linksys.com for free.

When you run the wizard, it will take you step by step on configuring network and passwords.

This will resolve connection problems and IP conflicts.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

This is only a problem with the firmware of your modem/router that you need to update it, because a network device like a modem and router that is working fine for severla years and suddenly stop working you just need to update the firmware of it and it should be working fine again, to update the firmware of the modem/router just need to call the manufacturer for that....

Hope that helps.........

How do I connect to a qwest dsl m1000 modem

You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Cannot connect to internet via Actiontec M1000 (Qwest)

open internet explorer, go to tools, internet options, then the connections tab and make sure ' never dial a connection' is ticked, assuming you had a dial up connection before using the router, other than that you need to check the routers settings, like the password /username for your ISP connection and assuming you originally set it up using an RJ45 lan cable (supplied) before using the wireless.

Wireless conection problems

As far as I can tell you can only connect to other people's computers via the network router in a wireless application. Even then your brothers computer must be on "share" setting to allow you to do so. Check your airport is working in the network settings function in preferences, if yes, go into you computer on the side bar there will be an icon called "network" click that once and you will see what your airport card is connected to and if your brothers cpu is on that network.

Setting up a wireless connection between my linlsys pcmcia card and my 2 wire gatway

first insert your pcmci linksys card into the laptop, you would find a found new hard ware screen, insert the setup disk, and then follow the steps, automatically your card would be installed, once the installation is done, the wireless adapter , would detect wireless signal, try connecting to the wireless network.. if it asks for any key, look at the bottom of your 2 wire router you would find a 10 digit number, enter the number as the number as key code or password, automatically you would get connected.. if case if you have any problem , revert back ..
