Hi there,
I recently got a new HP computer last weekend and it came with the new Windows Vista program. Since I got this new computer when I try to use my webcam it says that it is in use or not plugged in. I checked and it IS plugged in, and when I am downloading it from the CD it came with it tells me that there was a problem and the downloading has failed. Why is it not working? Is it not compatable with Windows Vista? thanks
Jennifer
Can't connect QuickCam 8.3.0 to my new HP computer with Windows Vista..when I try installing the software I am told that it is incompatiable..is there help besides getting a new webcam?

Hi,
If your web camera freezes check your Windows Device Manager and see if the hardware is recognized and installed properly. It might be that the hardware is recognized as a camera, but the right drivers are not installed. The yellow explanation mark will indicate a problem.
If the device is not recognized in Windows XP, it will be listed under Other Devices
In either case you can try to update the drivers. Right-click the device, and in the pop up menu select Update Driver Software. Then follow the instructions on screen, but make sure you allow Windows to search the web for updated drivers. In case no driver for the web cam can be found, you can try a third party driver finding program that scans your PC for installed hardware and allows you to install missing drivers.
If this fails, the next step would be to un install the software that came with your web cam. Use the Add or Remove Programs feature in the Control Panel. If that does not work you can use a third party un installer. After un installing the software, restart your PC and then reinstall the web cam software. In most cases this will solve the problems. Depending on the software, you might need to unplug your web cam during the software installation.
If the drivers and web cam software are correctly installed, and you still it freezes, there can be a problem with the program settings. Most chat and meeting software have a configuration option to select the video source for the web cam feature. If you have multiple devices that qualify for video, you might need to select your web cam device as the source for the web cam feature in that program. Some web cams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the web cam if things are right. But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quick time software are installed and up to date. But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including web cams, use DirectX for video processing. Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c – Windows Vista: DirectX 10).
Hi, Quick play would not work in Windows 7. When upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, some media programs are no longer compatible and will not be found in your Start menu. If you find this helpful then Plz vote for me..Dreamkam
That is a problem some people run into with Vista: sometimes hardware is not compatible or needs updated drivers to work. You can try looking on your hardware manufacturer's website, and download new Vista drivers if they are available. Most newer devices are supported, but you may be out of luck with some older hardware when you upgrade to Vista.
You can buy laptop coolers almost anywhere for $20 to $30. They will get hot. I try to keep my laptop on a flat open surface to allow maximum air flow. Setting it on you lap insulates it and it gets warm. Nothing out of the ordinary.
You may be able to download an updated driver from HP that will fix your web cam problem. There may also be another program running that is trying to manage the web cam also. Take a look at your running programs and close any that are related to the web cam and see if you error still occurs.
just put the usb cabel in and then it will come up in my computer that you have put a usb cabel in open that folder and it will say web cam and it will atuomaticly open your web cam
