Sound but no picture, tv turns off and on

I have a Toshiba TV, model # 46HM95. It suddenly stopped working. Now, when I turn it on, I get sound but no picture, and the set turns off and on every minute or so. I've tried unplugging it, but no luck.

    We got it secondhand and it is possible the lamp has never been replaced. Is it something I could buy and install myself or do I need a pro?

It sounds Lamp is dead in your TV, how old is this TV and did you replaced its lamp recently?

My toshiba tv model 42HM66 does not turn on at all. When I turn it gives some sound as it to start and after a couple of minutes shuts off with screen remaining black
Check the lamp. The sound you hear is the spark gap on the ballast that strikes the lamp at startup. The lamp access door is on the side or rear. The cost of the lamp can be upwards of $250 and cheaper online but recommend the OEM replacement, no knock offs.

Toshiba 62HM195, Loud hum noise when TV is first turned on.
I have the exact TV and had the exact same problems. It is the light engine with color wheel that needs to be replaced, and they are VERY hard to come by for this model. Our repairman has had our TV for 5 months and still cannot locate a vendor that carries the part. He said according to Toshiba, the part has been discontinued. If you happen to find one, please post. I'll do the same.

Humming/buzzing sound
That could be either the ballast, or colorwheel. Does the sound get louder at the rear of the tv or louder in front. let me know I may be able to help you.

I have the same thing, mine is the cooling fan for the lamp. If the sound continues for a short time after you turn off the TV then this is the most likely cause as the cooling fan will continue to run for a short time to cool off the bulb. I have looked into replacing mine, the part runs around $50 but I can't say yet how easy it is to replace yet.

Sounds like earth problem with your Electricity. Your tv think there is some kind of a short then go in to protection. If i am wright, when you touch the ground and some applience, does it shock a little bit, if yes im wright.

How's the lamp?? Sounds like a lamp failure which is the most likely problem with these units. The lamp for that unit is Toshiba p/n# 23311083x but a better source would be http://www.dlplampsource.com/ and they have it for $199.00 dollars with free shipping...
