Try reinstall windows. If this doesn't work you might have a conflict with your tv-tuner

Sounds like the driver for the TV Tuner is not installed, or the video and audio drivers may not be installed properly.
Mine was always a bit wonky in XP, works like a charm in Vista or Windows 7 though

Xp media center says no ntsc tuner installed

Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.

Try going into Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, click on the Media Center software, if listed, and see if it gives a choice to Change and/or Repair. You'll probably need your Windows CD if/when it prompts for it.

Error message for media center receiver pops up every 10 secs. "Media Center Receiver Service has encountered a problem and needs to close". I don't need or want to use the media center. Fix?

Go to Start>Run> Type in msconfig then go to the startup tab at the top and uncheck anything that says media center. Then go to the services tab and uncheck anything in there that says media center then let it restart your computer.

Media center receiver service error

The only usefull solution i have found is running mcerepair from this site

http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/21/483723.aspx

Its from the microsoft developer network so while not being official it is from someone at microsoft

alternativly you could run "sfc /scannow" from commandline or the start > run dialog, this will return all windows system files to their original versions, it might solve your issue

hope you find this helpfull

You should always choose the newest one. There is no reason it should not work. Try updateing all your programs and drivers.
