You can do this with most photo editing applications (Adobe Photoshop, Paint, etc.)... For Paint, just open the picture file (.jpg) in Paint, click the 'Image' menu and select 'Stretch and Skew'. You'll see a window which will allow you to reduce the image size by precentage (try 50% in each box). Then save your image and the resulting file should be a lot smaller.

I am unable to upload photos saved on my HP Pavilion dv6000 to my facebook album. Please help.

There can be a few things that may stop you doing that ..First be sure your pictures are in a common format(mpeg ;gif ) ..and are physically located on the laptop ...
Also make sure they are not too large in size...It is not specified on facebook ..but most sites do not upload large size if they exceed 2 Mb ..I suggest to use a photo manager or editor ...more likely ..and reduce their size ...and try again ..
make sure you are logged in your account and pay attention on the recommendations they make when the upload is denied ..
Another thing that may be very important is the internet connection ...If you are connected using a wireless or wifi connection ...make sure it has enough speed to be possible to make this operation ..If you use a router to connect and have good upload no issue ...but if you use a mobile connection ...or a hot spot ...or anything that allows you just to navigate ...this can also be a problem ...basically if the upload speed is too slow ...the time for upload will stretch so much ...and the laptop will consider as a failure ..
Another thing ..make sure you are on a admin account ..when you log into your computer ..cause this can also make troubles in this case..If you are not logged with and administrator rights account may refuse the operation ..
Try all I said ...and let me know what you've managed to do ..Good luck !

I click on upload and try to type in location of photo but the type does not show. I previously went to Documents, then My Pictures and clicked on the chosen photo. I have no problem sending photos via...

Make sure you are using the uploader provided with facebook, verify that your photo size is allowed and that may help. Many newer high resolution cameras take a very hi resolution picture, and as a result the photo has too large of a file size. Download Jasc painshop pro free, or other photo editing software and try to reduce the file size of your photo. You can also reduce the pixel count from your camera before you shoot. Also remember that, the larger your file size the slower the picture will load. This will make it hard for friends and family to view your picture due to long download times.

I can't upload photos on to e-bay - I think it's because they're too big. How do I change settings on my camera to reduce the size of the photos taken? The longest side needs to be between 1000 - 1600...

This will be difficult as you didn't mention the camera make or model. But assuming Canon, press Function, Func, or Func/Set, then scroll down to the bottom selection.

Select the "S" for small picture resolution (this should be around 640 x 480). When you want to go back to high resolution, just reverse the process and select "L" for Large (High) resolution pictures.

Photo resolution

Sony H1 takes photos at 72 dpi by default. But the picture quality will be good. if you want to convert it to 300dpi open the picture in adobe Photoshop and select image size and change resolution to 300 dpi. but the file size will be very high to up load. if you want to reduce the file size select the image size in adobe photoshop and reduce it according to your requirement. if my solution proves good please rate it. Regards.

Photo size too large for email

You can do that in 2 ways.

1) Shoot the photo or video in reduced size (less quality). This can achieved by adjusting the settings in your camera.

2) Use 3rd party software like photoshop or Microsoft paint to manually reduce the size using it.
