How to put music on my G1 - HTC G1

plug USB cord into phone and computer. Go to notification bar at top of the screen, press "mount". Only use mp3 files. It will not read wma files.

sure. just connect your usb wire the big end to your computer the small end to the phone. then a moment later a notification at the top of your screen appears saying usb connected. then drag that notification menu down and tap the usb connected notification to bring up an option to mount or not mount. choose mount. now on your computer open my computer where you see c drive and d drive. look for removable disk. then click on it and you'll see some folders open the audio or music folder and leave it open. open my computer again this time look for the folder where you keep your music. now when you get there drag music files from you music folder to your g1 audio. it will copy it to your g1 and once you are done unmount your g1 and bring up your music and your new files shoul be in there.

if you get a file explorer app it will show all the files on your phone

Well, after you press mount the SD card should show up on your computer as a drive. If you get confused about which drive it is, open 'my computer' or just 'computer' on vista, and then attach your phone. The drive which appears will be the SD card. Then you can copy and paste any files such as music and pictures into that drive.

You do not need wifi to transfer from your computer but if you want to turn the wifi on all you need to do is goto settings then wifi and make sure your wifi is turned on

I have a Windows Vista Computer and this is how it worked for me.......
This is fairly easy. Plug your G1 into a computer thru the USB cable provided. Shortly a window will appear on your screen showing a mobile device storage unit has been attached. That window is the G1's memory card. You should OPEN the file called music then open a new explorer window to your music directory. Simply Drag and Drop from your music directory to the G1's music window.

What type of music file is it?

This is how I did it. I am using Windows Vista so it maybe different for other OSs.

Find and select the picture(s) on your pc, copy them using CTRL-c.
Plugin your g1, and if you have installed the drivers, you need to goto your g1 and hold the USB icon on the top of the screen for a couple seconds. It should expand downwards, then pull it down. open the USB connected by toucing it. Touch the "Mount" button on the screen.

Autoplay dialog box should open on your pc, select "open folder to view files". open "dcim" folder. Paste the pictures in that folder.
NOTE: You will not be able to access the sdcard from the g1 until you unplug the USB after you're done.

Once all the pictures are uploaded into the sdcard, goto "My Computer" on your pc, rightclick the sdcard drive(it should be named like "Removable Drive" or something, and select "eject".

Now remove the USB cable, Select "Pictures" icon in you apps, if needed select "dcim" folder, and touch the pictures.


Siimilar can be done with music, just changing the instruction to "My Music" on your pc and also opening "Music" icon on your g1.

(1) Plub usb cable into G1 and computer. You should get a usb icon in the notification area of the G1; (2) Pull down the notification with your finger; (3) Select "Usb Connected" message; (4) Select "Mount" ; (4) On your computer, right click "Start", then click "Explore"; (5) Select the song(s) from where you keep your music, and select "copy"; (6) Go back to the left folders pane and click on the drive labelled "Removable Disk"; (7) Open the Music Folder; (8) then paste the songs there.

There are other ways to get from the computer to the G1, but this is the one I use. Hope that helps.
