Question about Apple MacBook Pro Laptop Computer with Intel Duo Core 15.4 Inch PC Notebook

1 Answer

My computer (Mac 0S X 10.4.11) will not recognize my external hard drive. I've checked all plugs and everything is securely plugged in. It also sounds like its working, at least the light is on and its definitely getting electricity from the wall plug, however the computer will not acknowledge its there. I've also tried searching the "maxtor" but the computer has found nothing. I have everything on there and need to access it!

Have you looked in the disk utility? otherwise you need something like disc warrior to rebuild the directories (they get corrupted and it goes invisible)

My toshiba external harddrive usb 3.0 won't work

click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems also make sure the computers Ram and Cmos battery are securely seated
if this fails to fix the problem

hope this helps you

Hi mate i have a wd passport hd, and i took it out when my computer wa restarting. and now my computer and any other computer dont read it it say reformat. it has very importent files on how can i retrive...

Here is a 10 day free trial of a software recovery program that can be burned to a disk. You would then boot from that disk with your external drive plugged in, and after it loads the software, tell it to find all available files. When you find your files, copy them to your regular hard drive and reformat the external. Copy the files back to your external drive. Hope that helps some.

Have plugged the external hdrive into 4 different computers but no computer will recognise the devise light are on everything is plugged in . Brand new h drive only opened today as it was bought as a...

You might need to double check to make sure this is made for a Mac, PC, or Both. You might need to have it formated from the Disk Management (assuming you are using a Windows computer) so your computer recognizes the hard drive.
Here is a link.

If this does not work then it is likely you have a faulty unit and should ask for a replacement.

1 tb western digital hard drive is not being recognised by my com

Try plugging the external Hard Drive to a different computer and see if it would recognize the device. If not, go the store where you purchased the external hard drive to have it replaced since it is still under warranty.

Using mac, when i click on securehd it reads no device is found.

Problem solved. What you have to do is plug it into a computer that it works with and disable password verification. Simple as that. I know it is not secured with a password but at least it works. On mac, anything after 10.5, you have to do this for it to work. Plug it in to an older os and disable password security.

My mac g5 is not recognising my WD elements extrenal hard drive, this is the first time I have plugged an extrenal hard drive of this sort into my mac. Thanks

My computer does not recognize the Drive.
A: First, check to make sure that all of your connections are secure. Then check if your External Hard Drive is listed in the Apple System Profiler. If the driver listed is “USB Authoring Support” or “Toast USB Support”, disable this Extension(s) in the Extensions Manager. These Extensions can cause a conflict with the Drive.

Haskel, Have you tried a different USB wire? Constantly remove of the cord can wear down the contacts/something is on the contacts? Check that I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant. Good Luck, Tim
