Why would you care. Cassette tape decks all have poor s/n ratios. Dolby was somewhat helpful but the tape moves accross the head too slow. Since the advent of digital audio all of the current cassette decks are truely junk.

How do I set up my jvc_td309 double cassette deck for recording on cassette tapes? Also what settings?

Adjust recording bias, if one, for the kind of tape you are using and you are good to go. For best performance use the brand of tape that was used to set up the machine when made.

If you have a fine tuning control for the bias, use it per instructions for best frequency response and s/n ratio.

My Sony TC WR 535 wont open doors, one cassette in deck B,lights blinked in display panel then unit shut down, not been able to turn it on since

Remove the cover after unplugging AC. Look for a plastic stop that keeps the eject button from going in farther. Move the plastic stop peice downward and the buttom will then move in all the way and tape will eject. On mine the plastic piece is white and rotates down.

Sony TC WR565 dual tape deck. Both doors will not

you can not fix it without tearing it apart. if you do take it apart, try to get the front panel off. Hit the eject button and look for a lever that is stuck.

SONY TC-WR550z dual tape deck eats tape and doors won't open I hadn't used this unit in 5 year (it's 13 or 14 years old), and before it worked fine. I went to use it again last month (MJ "Thriller" tape!)...

I don't know anything about the "eats tapes". You can take out your tape fairly easily thought. All you need to do is
unscrew screws on the left and right side of unit
remove the cover
use a flat head screw driver to gently push down on a white lever on the side of the drive mechanism while pushing the eject button

Replacing bands

Since the belts control the timing of the mechanism, I would not recommend this as a home repair. While relatively simple compared to some, this still is a delicate repair that can easily go wrong. Please bring this unit to an audio repair shop. Expect a parts cost in the $15-$20 range. There are 3 belts inside.

Squeeky tape deck

With the top off get hold of a flexable tube. One of those drinking straws that has a bend will do and place one end in your ear and search for the noise (like a stepescope). You might see what's causing it then.
I suspect that grease would not cure it. But try Silcone (from Maplin's (UK) or other type store, if you think it might need grease.
