Toshiba theaterview I have a toshiba theaterview big screen tv that is about 12 years old. The tv power turns on (as evidenced by the sound of the tv turning on and the red dot on the front of the tv) BUT there is NO picture or sound to the tv?

Something is causing the TV shut down or go in to 'protect' mode.
It is unusual to actually hear a component inside the TV go bad, but you obviously did. Probably in the main power supply or something that normally uses a higher voltage in the TV since you heard it..
Theaterview suggests a rear projection--in that case it most likely is in the convergence circuit--unsolder chips (convergence) and see if set turns on.
Some of their regular TV sets (picture tube) if the light is just blinking means the same thing=shutdown because of a short/problem but a model number would tell me which you have.
yes its on your remote. its the c.capt button. or go under menu/enter and pan to the left untill it comes up. and turn it off by scrolling through the caption buttons
5 years old toshiba tv is not that old as per reputation of toshiba.
it is not a big problem.
it might be due to power supply some part must be defective.
it can be fixed easily.
But if you want latest feature& digital quality picture go for new one.
I have the same tv and had it fixed the problem is most likely the power supply a $50.00 part but I suggest you have a repairman do the fix. Total cost should be around $250.00 for labor and parts. Also unplug your tv for over 4 hours then plug it back in to see if it works they call this a hard reset. If this does not work after 4 hours try unplugging it overnight and then try it. That is what I did to use the tv until I got it fixed. The only thing it could be is the convergence circuitv if this is the case it should cost about $400.00
I had the same red blinking led problem on my Toshiba Theaterview tv. I resolved by: - Unplugging the tv. - Press several times (3 or 4 times) the tv Power button. - Plug the tv back in and press the Power button once to turn the tv on....tv worked!!!
I've had the problem before and tried unplugging the tv for a couple of days and that had also worked, but I this recent solution seems to be faster. Good luck! Erick
tv powers on...no picture or sound red power light blinks.
