Can't connect my new Brother MFC490CW wireless printer. I do I proceed to activate my printer with this router (SMC2804WBRP-G)

Here is What i think You Should Do while Having issue With Brother Printer Wireless Connection
1- First Restart Your Router And Brother Printer ( if possible Your Computer Too).
2- Make sure You have the right password for Your printer.
3- You Can Try WPS Key to Connect your Printer with Router if your router and printer does have a WPS key.
Now Uninstall Any previous Printer Driver if you have Installed and Install Your Printer Like Brand New.

This model Bother printer has a 10baseT LAN connection and can be connected to your LAN network and to your HP laptop via the wireless router. Connect a LAN cable from the printer to the wireless router.
To print from your HP laptop, check the IP address range your wireless router issues to your wireless network, it maybe 192.168.1.*** then configure the brother printer with a fixed IP address with the same IP address range but higher address eg. 192.168.1.10 so it does not clash with any other IP addresses.
Next install the Brother printer driver normally.
Then configure the Brother printer Properties.
Click Start - Printers and faxes - right click on the Brother printer - click Properties - Port tab - click Add Port - Standard TCP/IP port -
Port Name eg. 192.168.1.10
Printer name eg Brother
Click OK
Then do a TEST print if it does not work then the IP address is probably incorrect.

dear Sure there is, but it's supposed to connect via a LAN switch. Since it worked at your old place, did you miss a step? Was the printer plugged into a router and the computer also plugged into the same router?

Basically, if it is a wireless-ready printer, what you need is match the same wireless settings that you have from your router.

On most wireless-ready printer, you need them to connect temporarily to your computer through USB connection then run the Setup CD. You will then have the option to configure the wireless settings (the same that you have on your router), then install the printer driver afterwards. You'll be prompted when to unhook the printer from your computer to make it wireless.

for the document you want to print click on print and your printer should show up now just click on the printer and look down where it says use printer offline and click on it again and than it will say use printer online and just print from there ok please dont forget to rate this solution for me

You need to setup security on the laptop/access point. Apparently it has been setup in the router.

do u want to lock the router wirelessly?
if so may i know the model of the router..?

do u mean wifi?
if so wat in specific do u want to configure wirelessly?

click start, control panel, internet options, connections tab, remove anything you see in the "dial up and vertual private network, click on LAN Settings, the only one that should be checked is "Automaticly detect settings, click ok and close all. open internet explorer if problem still there disable firewalls.
