The drip pan on any freezer collects ice melts from the evaporator during the defrost cycle. Most of them are mounted on the compressor and use the compressor waste heat to evaporate the water.
If there is rotten meat smell in the drip pan it means there is also rotten meat smell in the evaporator coils and fins.
It's almost impossible to get "stuff" out of the evaporator fins unless you take the unit apart.
This means you will probably have to remove and replace the refrigerant plus evaporator and the entire process could take two 8 hour days or more.
Alternately,
after you completely wash it out you can try placing a pan of hot water in it and run it empty. The steam will condense on the evaporator and freeze. Then defrost it . Hopefully this will wash some of the funk away. You might have to do this several times.
If that doesn't work then cost wise the unit is junk.
Suggest in future wrap your meats in freezer bags or other
water/air tight containers in case power goes off.
Monitoring your freezer is a must to catch issues before smelly spoilage can set in.
This is more than likely a sign of Freon issue, where the machine runs non stop trying to reach a temperature that it never does. Even though things are freezing, like meats and such, they have water in them and that freezing point is 32 F. Check the ice cream if you have it in there, does it seem softer than normal, or not as solid as you like. If so, you have a leak and a tech should be called
try to replace the Styrofoam cup then put on the top.. if the same happens.or it will be frozen it means styrofaom is .................................. then use another...
You need to remember heat rises and cold air falls. The best way to load a freezer is to put meats on the bottom. They take alot longer to freeze and thaw and can save your stock if you have a power failure. Keep non-critical things like ice cream, ice, and other thing towards the top for quicker access.
Check the vents in the fridge side and close a little if you can. On the freezer side just for good measure>>>>
Is your circulating fan working?
Sometimes they stick and need a shot of WD 40 and then work
it back and forth a little until it wants to take off again. Keep me informed

Could be that the automatic defrost feature is not operating properly. You can go here if you want to find out how you might be able to fix it yourself, but you'll need to be comfortable with diagnostic testing and taking your frig apart. Otherwise, it's very repairable...contact a reputable repair company to come check it out.
Your best bet is to start in the middle. Guesstimate and let it run. The test is to see if water freezes solid in 6-8 hours. If not, you can turn about 1/4 turn or less. Then you can try hamburger meat which a lower freezing temp and see if it gets solid. Your perishable items should be put somewhere else until you are ready. At least the water frozen will keep the meat safe from bacteria growth or spoilage. Let me know how you do.
It sounds like you may be overloading your unit. If you place a large quanity of non frozen items in the freezer at one time, it may take a few hours to bring the temperature back down. This usually happens with a chest type not an upright. Insure when adding items to the freezer there is room for air movement. With out looking at it I think the problem is the defrost timer or sensor. Maybe staying on too long increasing the overall temperature of the unit. When ever the defrost cycle is on, the cooling unit is also off. As far as the meat freezer burning, none of the freezer bags I have used prevent this. I pr-wrap my meat in freezer paper and then place it in a bag, sometimes freezer bags sometimes not. I try not to buy meat from grocery stores, I grow my own meat and have it butchered and vacuum packed, it doesn't change color. Please note that items in a freezer bag moved around after the contents have frozen will cause air leaks in the bags very easily.
You said, you are getting freezer burn in only two days, right?
Are you putting the meat in proper freezer bags and squeezing air out as you zip lock the bag? If you do not use proper freezer bags you will always get freezer burn on meats!
WAIT ! This will not happen in two days! Seems to me something else has happened to your meat prior to your purchase and it probably is not the freezer at fault.
If it happens to meat that you feel was not frozen when you bought it, check with the store of purchase to see if it came into them frozen before it was put in their refrigerator case! Most super markets receive cases of frozen meat and then put them in the walk in refrigerator, or refrigerator case to present them for sale to the customers and they defrost in the case.
Then we think we are buying meat that is fresh and never been frozen! Fresh meat will not freezer burn in 2 days unless it has happened previously to the time you bought it.
Also when you freeze any meat you buy, repack it in proper freezer bags and not just any zip lock bag!
But I believe it happened before you bought it. And i'll bet it all came from the same store. that's why some people shop at a butcher shop or Costco type store where the meat is fresher and sells out faster! Bless you. ngafm Please give me a good rating before you sign off. Thank You. Let me know the verdict. I think I'm right on target! Do some investigating and ask the store some hard questions!
