We were told it needs a vertical hold part - the top 3-4 in of the screen have horizontal lines and roll ? We purchased in 1990 and have bought a new tv and want to give this one away to a friend but may cost too much to fix. Someone said the verticle hold switch or button or whatever is too close to some other button and it over heats - they said this was common.

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
