Overheating Rear Projection problem

My rear projection (1992????) Ultravision (Model 50SX6P) shuts off after a few hours. It takes about 2 hours or so before I can turn it back on. The last time it did this, the sound also disappeared but is back on now after a 24 hour wait. Can this be fixed?

Where is the fan? I didn't see one but I haven't had the chance to pull it away from the wall and really look it. The TV is a 1995 model. I took the back off and looked at the sticker on the back board which indicates the following (Hitachi Television receiver, 1995, Model 50SX6P). The sound is gone completely now. The TV was on for several hours (5) yesterday with no shut off problems but the sound has not returned at all.

My TV turns it self off after a few hour s of viewing

Hi.

The most common problem that causes shut down after few hours is overheating. Overheating however does not necessarily occurr because a faun is broken or because a thermistor is defective. A devective IC may fail and overheat on its own. The fault won't be even called overheating in some case.

The TV must be taken apart and tested by a technician.

Common faults to be tested are:

Fans and tehrmistors.
Convergence ICs.
Ballast.
PSU.
There are also a couple of test point on main controller board to be tested.

Regards.

Ginko.

Broken screens on 53'' Hitachi rear-projection TV

I think it would likely work if you trimmed it evenly around the sides in order to maintain the central position. Focus may have to be adjusted but thats all.

Rear projection set keeps turning off after it warms up

Sounds like thermal overheating. Is the TV in a "cabinet". If so...overheating is likely, Also...if the set is more than a few years old, you should clean all fans and filters (front, side, back) as approprite. Check the lamp and cooling fan...is it dirty? If so...cleaning is needed as inadequate air flow is most likely the culprit.

52 INCH RCA REAR PROJECTION SHUTS OFF

Your TV is overheating.. easiest remedy is to point a fan at the back of the TV or... clean the inside of the TV, Im sure its full of dust and stuff... this prevents air circulation inside the TV thus creating more heat...
