Not funtioning kodak p850 the camera turns on but will not function, won't read the card, take pics, can's even set the date and then it will not turn off unless the battery is taken out. Any help?

Are you in the Review mode when you press the MENU button? What type and size memory card do you have in the camera?

Spray a littlebit of WD40 or contact spray round the powerswitch, after removing the batterie and work the switch a number of times.

Hello. If you have not formatted the card in your camera, go to the camera menu and locate the format function. then reformat the card. If this does not fix the problem take out the card and look around the perimeter of the card for the locking mechanism. Make sure the card is unlocked.

If you have moved pics from your computer to the card and then inserted the card into your camera, the card is now formatted to the computer, not the camera. You're supposed to format the card in the camera.

Since you did not give much info, let us try.

Make sure you have the correct card for the camera you have.
This camera Kodak Easyshare P850 requires the following memory card. MultiMediaCard, Secure Digital (SD) Card.

Since this camera is a few years old 5.1 mpxl, it may have a limit on the size of cd card you can use. If you are using a large card, go to a smaller card and see what happens, for instance a 512 meg. card.
This camera may have an upgrade for the firmware, and may make it work better. You have to check the Kodak site for such upgrades and info on how to install the upgrade to the firmware.
If upgrades for the firmware is available, it will improve some of the features on the camera. Always worth the time to check.

This problem is frequently due to corroded battery terminals inside the camera. Remove the batteries and wipe the terminals with a soft cloth (heavy corrosion may require a fine wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue left in the camera by the cleaning. Press Menu scroll far right,
Keep scrolling down untill you get to Time and date.
Press Zoom and read help menu.
Set time and date and functions.

please find whether the memory card is corrupted..

also having same problem after 18 months of no problems. As well, camera will not read memory cards which I have used in this camera almost since new. Format card, still no read. Sometimes when I take first photo, lens retracts as though camera is powering off but then changes it's mind and is o.k.
