My plasma, bottom half of the screen is black and goes in and out. Now it's staying black on the bottom half of the screen. What's the cause of this and is it expensive to repair?

Hi. I had this problem a year ago on my Philips 50". They told me it was an expensive repair so they just replaced some faulty capacitors and cleaned the contacts on both the lower and upper buffer circuit boards. It fixed the problem for a year but now then top half has gone black. I have been told I need to replace the Y - Main and both Upper and Lower PCBs at about $800 AUD. The service guy told me to forget about it and scrap the tele which really *issed me off. No one else but Philips make the ambilight and Philips no longer sell to Australia. So I do not know what to do. I have gone out and bought a 60" LG LCD LED 3D smart tele but I would love to get my hands on the appropriate parts to try to fix the Philips if I can.
In regards to your problem if they simply clean the contacts I would not expect to get too much more use out of it. My problem happened after about 5 years.
