Is the button on the gas valve or a red button in the line to the pilot assembly? If its in the line, there is a regulator upstream of the button. If the gas is coming from the gas valve, there is a small screw covered hole in line with the pilot line in the gas valve. If neither of these apply, you may need to replace the orifice in the pilot assembly. Let me know how it goes.
Yes it can do but you will be better off by gone to a gas heater. MY own furnace was chance over to propane and didn't workout to good. Less then ayear i have put in a new heater. Ken's Repair
Is this unit originally set up for natural gas? If so, the burner oriface and the gas valve need to be retro-fitted to propane. This is something only a qualified service technician should attempt as an incorrect retro-fit could cause an explosion resulting in someone getting hurt or even killed.
